Just went to pick up my refill on Pentasa and found out that my insurance has reached its max and its all out of pocket from now on. In case you want to know a month's worth of pentasa is just around $650--Entocort runs $950 a month. I'm home from work on maternity leave and this is not in my budget. Has anyone had any experience with contacting Shire (the mfg) about getting some sort of monetary assistance? I really don't want to start begging family for money, re-mortgage the house or stopping the medication.

I was just given a prescription to lialda, which is the same thing basically. Thay are 1.2g tabs of mesalamine. I got a card from the doctor, it's from Shire and it says "don't pay more than 10 dollars". So I'd call them and see what they can offer you.

I was fired from my job while in the hospital with a flare and my benefits were cancelled April 30th. So, I did a google search for pentasa assistance and located RXASSIST.ORG. You have to print the form, complete your portion of the application and then give it to your doctor. They comlete their portion and submit it with a prescription. If you meet their qualifications, you can receive the medicine for free. I have qualified for Pentasa and also contacted places for Remicade and one of my other meds. Just google "drug name" assistance and you can locate agencies that help people who can't afford their meds. It's a great help. Good Luck!
