Hello all :)

I have recently been put on pentasa (afew months ago) after being switched from my last medication due to my hair falling out.
The last few weeks ive been having trouble with my lower back/kidneys?
Every now and then, I get a horrible ache (full like feeling) in my lower back.
At one point, it came on suddenly and i was in agony, but once id had a wee - it had gone.

My mother in law says where i point to, is to low for it to be my kidneys and she thinks that its just back trouble.

Im just abit worried there might be something wrong with my kidneys as ive read pentasa can cause some problems?
Ive been trying to check my urine, but its hard to see if its cloudy.... i wouldnt say it was 'much' darker than normal... maybe slightly.
some days it cane be quite strong smelling too, but i guess this is normal?

Maybe im panicking abit to much!! just wondered whether i should see the doctor.... dont want to waste their time if its nothing

I would make an appointment to see the doctor. They should check your wee and arrange for a blood test to check your kidney function.

Don't worry about wasting their time- it's their job! And it's always better to be safe than sorry!

Thanks for your advice. I will phone them up tomorrow to arrange an appointment.
Would you advise taking a sample of urine with me?

I've got a blood test booked for next month to check whether I need B12 injections, so they might leave the blood test until then.

The joys of Crohn's - we are more susceptible to kidney stones. Sounds very much to me like you might have some small stone formation happening - I have had similar experiences, and some have resulted in trips to the Emergency room because of stones. Take care!

Crohn's Disease can lead to various issues in that area. Try to get in to be seen sooner than next month. If they find that your kidneys and various ducts are fine then they should also take a look at your spine and sacroiliac joint.

And no need to take a urine specimen with you, they'll collect a fresh one there.

I hope you feel better soon! I know this is a terrible thing to be experiencing :(
