Just wanted to say that I've been taking Pentasa for about a week and it seems to be helping:) The side effects that I had while beginning the drug have gone down, I've been eating more and seem to be gaining some of my weight back. Admit that I'm still at 20mg of prednisone at the same time of taking this med, but at least it seems to be doing more for me at the moment than the asacol did.

P.S. Trying the pentasa was part of the discussion that I had with the doctor that I had a second opinion with in which she suggested and I'm thankful that I did.

Next wed 7/18 I'll be updating her. Still getting blood, but didn't get worse in a few days so won't be completely better in a few days either. One concern is I'm having trouble getting these horsepills down. So, will be asking her for any tricks to help them go down easier. Otherwise, can't complain though:)

I had to buy plastic toilet seats for my house because of Pentasa and Lialda causing purple/pink/brown stains on the underside of the seat. It's the urine that stains it.

Haven't noticed that yet. Although, urine is a bit darker sometimes. I use disposable wipes when I go and believe it or not, I've found other ways to use those other than just for my rear end!

-Clean/polish my cell phone face without harming anything (doesn't have to be wet either).
-Sometimes using wipes cleans the toilet seat easier & can flush the wipe when you're done.

Do you know if the 250mg of Pentasa is any smaller than the 500mg? If so, I might be interested in taking more pills having an easier time getting them down rather than taking these two 4 times a day.

I do the same thing with wipes! Hahaha!

I don't know about the size difference between the 250 mg and 500 mg. I was initiated on the 500 mg. I had issues with them sticking in my throat as well, but usually managed to get them down by drinking extra water. I know that hasn't worked well enough for you though.

That's funny:) Boy, those wipes are so nice and usable for so many things!

Thanks for trying. Was hoping would just get used to swallowing those big babies. We'll see what other info I can find out...

Updated the doctor on how I'm doing. Unfortunately, she didn't have any real help as far as taking the horsepills. All she could tell me is to drink lots of water and do the best I can since this drug seems to be working for the moment. Looks like I might be investing in milkshakes whenever I can get ahold of them to help get these things down! Hope you're having a good night tonight:)
