So I had a parianal abscess drained nov 29th 2013. I'm now at emergency for the second time since. The clinic nurses that change my packing every day have sent me to hospital because the wound is not healing and they're concerned that I'm not on strong enough meds or something's wrong. Has anyone been through this??? I'm going crazy and the depression has definitely kicked in.

How are you doing? Are you on any antibiotics to help flush the infection from your body and heal up the abscess? In my case, when my perianal abscess wasn't healing well at all, I had to start Remicade. While I was only able to get a few doses, that in combination with antibiotics healed my abscess very quickly.

The same happened to me a couple years ago. I had a major perianal abscess. Had I&D and the thing wouldn't heal. It just kept bursting back open. I was going to wound care and he just kept telling me to give it time. Finally, it got so bad I went to ER. I was prescribed antibiotics and sent on my merry way. My wound care doctor finally sent me back to my surgeon and that's when I learned all about fistulas, setons, and everything to do with them. At first I was so scared and upset. Two years later, I'm still healing, but it's not as bad as it sounds. Really. I don't even notice it now (aside from the recent pain that has developed, which I'm hoping is healing pains). I know that's not what you wanted to hear, but don't rule it out as a possibility. Knowing for sure is the first step to get you on the road to healing.

My surgeon decided to remove the packing and discontinue the daily re-packing. I feel so much better just because my life isn't consumed by those daily clinic appts. I'm taking sitz baths twice daily. I know there's a 60% chance it'll happen again but I'm trying to stay positive. Today was my last day on antibiotics so I'm nervous about the next few days thanks for the reply. It helps a lot
