Back to Vandy last week with excruciating butt pain which she says is located at Seton site. MRI negative. Added Nifedipine and Lidocaine Ointments. Increased her Celexa and added Trazadone for sleep. Anyone used Calcium Channel Blocker in rectal area? Not happy adding all of these antidepressants esp. in a 16 yr old. They said her pain perception is off. I wish all docs had Setons in their anus, and then ascertain their pain perception. Can you tell I am over doctors ? We have done sitz baths and the whole gamut for perianal disease. It never ends. Oh, and by the way, they tell us we are in remission. Dietitian told her she can eat anything she wants in moderation. Astounding considering I have watched every bite that goes in her mouth for 7 months to get her in this so called remission.

Oh I'm so sorry to hear she is still dealing with so much! Sending prayers and hugs your way!

So sorry to hear that your daughter is struggling with all this. I find it infuriating how docs put so little emphasis on a patients pain. It seems like because it is something that can't be quantified accurately on a neat little test that they put very little value on it. I especially hate it when tests come back normal and they decide that there is no reason for the pain. :ymad:

I've heard good things about calcium channel blockers for anorectal pain. I've also heard of using albuterol for this. It is odd but it is a smooth muscle relaxant. I've also heard of nitroglycerine topically for this. I don't agree with the increasing celexa AND adding trazodone. It might be too much. If she needs the trazodone for sleep, I'd wait and see if it helps with both. Watch for suicidal ideation for sure! Thinking of you both.
