Period and abscess dressings

Hi
I had surgery two weeks ago to drain a small abscess. I have another thread in general IBD discussions about my progress since I have been out of hospital. I have now learned to pack and do my dressings myself but I am now on my period and I am a little bit worried about my dressings getting covered in blood.
The site is right next to my anus just slightly onto the right cheek. Obviously everything is just so close together down there!
I just wondered if anyone has any experience with this and maybe I just want some reassurance that I'm doing the right thing with keeping the wound clean. I'm just keeping an eye on it throughout the day and I guess I will change it if I think it looks too bloody.
Periods are rubbish enough as it is... I can't wait for this one to be over!!

I used to use tampons and rly liked them. But I haven't got on so well with them recently. It would make everything a lot cleaner but I kind of cant be bothered to try them. I spend enough time in the bathroom changing dressings atm as it is!!
