I'm 30 yrs old and been suffering from Crohn's for the past 15 years! The disease in now active and I've been on gupisone, azoran, Pentasa, duphaston retard, gasec. It's during that time of the month, and it's the toughest time. Although the periods are always regular, they jus start and stop( it lasts for a day!) the starting date is 18th of every month. 2 days before this date, the constipation issue begins and continues throughout the 7 days! The bleeding jus happens on 1 day!! What's happening here?? I really wanna know. I'm just so sick and tired, can't eat, feeling bloated, and just can't pass stool. Anyone facing the same problem?? I would really be grateful if I get to hear anything that would help!

I'm afraid that I don't get the same problems with that time of the month. But, I do flare a bit. Have you spoken to your doctor/doctors about this? Maybe they might have a few ideas that could help.

In the meantime. Here is something that I found that could be interesting. I know that it mentions IBS, but it seems like it could also be true for IBD. I hope this might answer some of your questions.

I can't help you on the issues with it relating to the timing of your period, but there are many ways to treat constipation. You can get stool softeners, which draw water into the stool and make it easier to pass (if when you do go it's painful or you have to strain a lot, these can help). Or there are stimulant laxatives which also do what the name implies - stimulate your bowel into moving. These can cause more side effects than stool softeners.

When trying any laxative for the first time, start with a very small dose and build up. You may want to check with a doctor first. If you want further information about laxatives, let me know. Wikipedia has a good page on the different types available: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laxative

I think it might be a good idea to ask a doctor about your periods. Have they always been so brief? Have you ever had your hormone levels checked? Also, have you ever been on the pill, and if you have, were your periods the same when on it?
