I have found I am much more comfortable in bed when I lie on my side and prop up my tummy with a small pillow. Some how it helps my tummy relax. This is especially so when I am lying on my left side. Anyone else?
Try it it may help you too!

Well Poopaholic, thanks for one of the best Freudian slips I have seen in a long time. I sure hope that you meant "Fetal Position". I think many of us are all too familiar with the fecal position!

lol yes, hahaha I was gonna mention the fetal position... It feels so good to curl up in it hugging the pillow. This has always given me the best relief when I'm really in pain.

If I sleep on my stomach (which is rare, I guess I've trained myself to sleep on my side or back) I usually place a pillow under me. I had a bowel resection done when I was 15 (I'm 24 now) and experience discomfort when I do not. Not pain or anything, it just feels like I can't get comfortable that way.

I used to curl up with a pillow under my stomach (never knew before being diagnosed that there is such a thing as gas pain) and it used to help. The other day I went to sleep with a hot water bottle to ease discomfort and sleeping on my left side. I read somewhere that it helps move things around. But I don't remember if it helped when I was at my worst.

me too! hot water for pain and a small pillow to 'prop up' my tummy because it feels bad when it just has to hang down. glad to know others experience it too!

Me too! Right side, pillow if pain is bad, or blankets tucked under to pop up tummy. I Havnt tried a water bottle though, but heat on my back always felt nice when in a flare. I'd like one of those heat pads for my back, so I don't need to lay in front of the heater when bad. Funnily enough, laying on the floor helps too, and in bed, lots of pillows to elevate me if I'm really sore from inflammation.

LMAO Poopaholic!! I wonder if you were being clever, or if it was a Freudian slip, whichever it was, I laughed out loud!

I read somewhere that when IBD patients sleep on their stomachs they usually bend and tuck one leg up. It takes preseure off the stomach. Makes sense.
