so, i've been on remicade for 3 weeks now. doing really well. then about a week ago i noticed slightly more mucus (it had been gradually getting less and less) and the last couple days i've had a lot more bowel movements (4-5) after it having gone down to 2-3.
i am premenstrual. is this what's making it worse? i haven't had any of my other symptoms come back. no rectal pressure, my acne is still doing marvelous, no perianal pain. it's just the mucus and increased bowel movements (normal, not diarrhea).

i know the extra progesterone can make your guts contract more. would that make you more mucus-y?

I always had a slight increase in symptoms when I was premenstrual. Usually I went back to normal a few days after my period started. Aren't hormones great?

I always had disastrous days before periods. couldn't make an appt to get out house. on and off loo all day, despite same diet day in day out, and even with liquid foods, loo 30+ per day for me. yay menopause and hoping i am almost through it.

I used to get horrific diarrhea with menses
This is due to prostaglandins, a natural chemical which produce uterine contractions, and also triggers contractions in your bowels, resulting in diarrhea.
Ibuprofen is one way of reducing prostaglandin production but unfortunately these NSAIDS can play havoc with our IBD!
Sticking to a low residue diet during this production can reduce diarrhea, white rice, bananas and bread can help prevent loose stools.
I feel for you, I had a total hysterectomy 10 years ago and it was the best decision I've ever made.
Check out the forumwiki for more info on endometriosis which also could be a contributing factor in your problems

I am generally more C except right before my cycle. If I truly have this disease then I have it mild. But I would always have problems right before my period. When I noticed this I went on the bcp that would let me get only 4 periods a year. The first time it on the pill it worked great but after I had my son my hormones were ll messed up and it did not work. At my best I just have softer bms and found it easier to go then any other time of the month. But I always have pain with it worst with d mild with soft. Never understood why. Thanks glad I am not alone on this one.
