Hey everyone, so Im checkin in with none but all who know best today. Ive been doing well lately, minor stuff to deal with....but nothing in comparison to what Ive been through. Anyway, I took my son to see Cars 2 this morning and I was perfect. Normally I dont eat popcorn, but maybe a few pieces. Well today I had a few handfulls....OMG!!! I HATE myself for it....I cant believe how sick I am. About 45 mins after I finished my last handfull I was so sick to my stomach....I made it home and have been in and out of the loo all day....lots of d, with blood and mucos. I have begun to feel like a train plowed into me, really shaky, light headed...fatigued and can berely get up off the couch!! WTH?? Ive been so good, Im praying it will pass...as grandparents are taking my kids tonight and I would really love to enjoy somewhere else besides the toilet and couch. Any suggestions or experience with this? My son ate some too and hes fine. My guts hate me, so I know it must be the disease. Also on antibiotics, so I know my body is fighting as is. ICK~

I doubt the popcorn caused the bleeding and certainly not the mucus. True popcorn is hard for anyone to digest with or without IBD but its not glass cutting its way through. I'd let the GI know about it. Definitely sounds like the flare isn't under control. I'm always for heading to the ER if there's a lot of blood. Gotta be careful with that. I hope you start to feel better soon and that the bleeding stops (even if it does still tell your GI about it).

The popcorn has so much insoluble fiber, not to mention shells. I limit myself to 3 or 4 handfuls on rare occasions as they tear my guts up.

Unless I am as completely healthy as I can get, I avoid popcorn, no matter how great it smells.

I actually have this reaction to popcorn, so it's very possible that's what is happening to you.

Popcorn is full of fiber and the shells are virtually indigestible.

Sit back, relax and hope this passes. It usually does for me, but you never know.

oh wow it is such a no-no for me anyway.

Get as much water as you can in to yourself, and if possible complete bed rest.

Wishing you good health my friend

I was a huge fan of popcorn. It tears me apart. I think I have finally learned to avoid it. Early on in my marriage, I would get cravings and give in to the temptation when my husband wasn't around. I always paid for it. When the pain and distress started, Scott would ask me what I had been eating. I couldn't lie to him. He quit keeping it in the house.

Your symptoms sound similar to mine. When I would sneak and eat popcorn, I'd get horrible cramping, urgency, and I would break out in a cold, dizzy, nauseated sweat. Time was the only thing that worked when I dabbled into the popcorn. I took Mylanta, drank fluids, and would soak in a warm bath.

Hang in there! This too shall pass. . .

So yesterday things go so bad, I thought I was going to end up in the hospital. I layed in bed for four hours with frequent trips to the loo.....I started to feel horrible, like a truck hit me. I couldnt see or stand straight, completely weak and fatigued. Then it went away....that feeling anyway. Today Im just not right....many trips to the toilet, still blood and tons of mucos. Ick! I see GI on Thursday, so we will see what he says.

Popcorn is bad for us, but its usually not that bad. I don't think it would cause all that. Wow. Go talk to your G.I. Sorry you have to deal with that one Bev.

Popcorn!!??? Are you serious? This the WORST thing to eat for a Crohnian! What you are experimenting is occlusion. The last time I did venture into corn territory I wind up in hospital. NEVER EVER TOUCH THAT AGAIN! It may pass though... BUT, if your pain is near the intolerable, call the ambulance. NOW! I wish you well.

Kettle corn..oh how I miss thee....but not enuf to EVER put a kernel past my lips. Last year I had 2, count em,2 kernals and it was like eating glass. I do hope you're better. Next movie, big pockets and brown rice chips.hee hee

I know I am replying to an old post, but maybe it can help someone out down the road. I have had "questionable Crohn's" for 20 years.

Yesterday was the worst ever! I went to see a movie with my friends and hate several handfuls of popcorn on an empty stomach. A few hours later, I was suddenly hit with intense pain and rain to the bathroom. The next few minutes, as I sat on the toilet, my entire body began to tingle intensely, and my arms and legs went numb. (Similar to the feeling when your foot falls asleep but it was my whole body, especially my arms!) My stomach was cramping so bad and my body broke out in a sweat. Then my hands start to cramp so bad that I couldn't even bend my fingers! This continued for several minutes until the diarrhea started to exit my body. After all the stool was out, the bleeding started!

It's been about 14 hours since this episode, and I am laying in bed in the fetal position. I have taken an Immodium, Tylenol and Hyoscamine. (My dr can't see me until late tomorrow, but if it gets worst, I am suppose to go to the ER).

I will never touch popcorn again!!!!!

First one is always scary, but please know it's super easy!! The worst part for you was the prep today!! Best of luck Miss Leopard!

I just hope it goes by quick and my modesty doesn't interfere too much. I love the facility where I'm having it at, so that makes it easier. They did a great job when I had my endoscopy done. :)
