Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to post on here to get some advice really!

I had an op about 6 weeks ago to remove the piece of bowel that connects the small and Large intestine due to crohns.

Since the op I think I'm doing well but everyone so often I get abdominal cramps that can last up to 24 hours. I'm not sure if this due to my bowel trying to fix itself or the food I'm eating. The cramp is usually relieved when my stomache grumbles - it sounds like air or water moving around in my gut! Then it happens all over again.

Has anyone else experienced this sort of thing? It's a bit scary and I'm scared the crohns is coming back!

A reply or advice would be great

Hi Lolly. :welcome:

It's good to hear that you are progressing well since your op. You might still have some air in your intestines that is working its way out.

Have you had a followup visit to your surgeon yet? Six weeks is about the usual time for this. If not, it might be worth giving him or her a call and trying to get an appointment soon to talk about your concerns.

Hi Susan,

Thanks for your reply!:)

Yes I have an appointment with the surgeon in a few days so I will ask her about it.

It's strange as the cramps come and go - I have had them a few times since the op. I'm trying not to stress too much though.

Thanks again for the reply - im glad I have somewhere to chat about the Crohns stuff as its a bit scary not knowing what's going on.

Hi Lolly-

Glad things are mostly going well since your surgery. I was wondering if you are on any medication post-op, or what the plan was with treatment post-op. It seems from reading other posts that the post-op treatment plan is not always 100% clear between GI doc and surgeon. I am having surgery in a week, so I am very interested to hear what your post-op plans were/are for treating crohn's. Thanks for posting.

Hi Lolly,

My son had a right hemicolectomy on Oct 30 and he also had some grumbles after leaving the hospital. I called the surgeon about it a couple times because I too was concerned. In our situation the surgeon felt that it was just the bowel trying to "re route" everything and it would get better in time. My son had "twinges" he called them but no bad cramps.

I know it is very scary when things are going on in there and we don't know what it is but we had our check up yesterday with our surgeon and he said it would take a few months for my son's body to get used to the "new plumbing" and learn which way things are supposed to go.

I would certainly say if your cramps are painful or if your concerned it's better to go get checked by a doctor if you can't speak with your surgeon over the phone directly.

Good luck!!
