I had surgery about a month and a half ago and here I am back in the hospital with very high out put from my stoma. Got so dehydrated I almost passed out. My dr said it happens in 15% of ileostomy cases. I was wondering if anyone else went through this? Thanks

Skully

I had extremely high output. Keep drinking
Gatorade and orange juice and add sea salt to your foods to prevent dehydration. You may also need to use imodium to control the output and if that doesn't work ask for Lomotil or tincture of opium which are stronger.

Hi skully. I've had they a few times. NGNG has given good advice.
It will slow up. Hang in there. Best wishes.

I forgot to add, eat foods with smooth peanut butter. Thickens me up big time! I love making Asian pasta with peanut butter and soy sauce.

Since my most recent surgery a couple of weeks ago,I've been having issues as well. I woke up with a new stoma that has been very high output, almost entirely liquid. I started taking 1/2 tsp of psyllium husk 3 times a day mixed with a glass of water. It has slowed things down and thickened it up. It's allowed me to greatly increase my liquid intake.

But be very careful, I over did it to start and almost gave myself an obstruction.

Beyond that, potato chips have helped me. The extra salt helps.
