Hi all-
I'm scheduled for surgery that will happen about 36 hours from now and I haven't yet gotten a clear answer about food that I will be permitted to eat afterwards. I am going in for an ileo-cecal (?) resection and it is not predicted that i will need an ostomy bag, but of course, my surgeon doesn't know for sure until he's in there.
What food were you able to tolerate after this kind of surgery? How soon will I be expecting to eat like normal again? Also- what sorts of foods should I be expecting to eat while i'm starting food again in the hospital? I've been craving a good burger and fries for months now but have been unable to eat- this is a step closer but I am growing impatient!
Thank you for your help :dog:

Yes I am. In exactly the same position, can't wait to have a burger and a big bag of French fries/chips as soon as I am able to,

Hello there! I just had the same surgery on May 20th. I had it done laparascopically. I was home in three days. I was able to eat anything I wanted after I could tolerate water with no nausea. I have been able to eat things now I would have never been able to eat pre-surgery. I was even able to eat a nice salad without pain. Surgery was the best thing that I could have hoped for. After years of being in pain all the time, it feels pretty darn good to not have it now :) I hope and pray your surgery goes well, and you are able to eat whatever you crave :)

The hospital will likely give you a menu of options and the doctor should give you a list of post-op foods to eat while healing.

At first I had no food or drink, then a day of ice chips, then liquid diet followed by soft low fiber foods like chicken, jello.

My post op diet was mainly dairy and white flour products and some juices.
