I saw a GI doc yesterday who said that the predisolone I was on for a different problem (with eyes) should have taken my symptoms away completely. He said because it didnt take symptoms away completely he wasnt sure if the IBD seen in the biopsy was indeed IBD and not some other kind of inflammation.

I was on Prednisolone for 3 weeks 1w@ 40 > 1w @ 20 > 1w @ 10. I stopped yesterday.

The symptoms were massively reduced compared to how they have been previously but just not absent. As I dont go back for 2 months, I have noone to ask about this.

Is it abnormal to still have (reduced) symptoms while on prednisolone?

Do you mean prednisone? If so.. it helped me for a couple of weeks and then stopped helping completely so I'm coming off of it. I also don't think you were on it long enough or at a high enough dose to really say whether or not it was helping. It's not meant for long term use either, just to stabilize on a different regimen.

Hi jetsma!
I was prescribed prednisolone to reduce my inflammation, as far as I was aware it is commonly used in crohns? Is that what you are asking? :)

The 'prednisolone and prednisone' thing confused me for ages cassmarie!...It you have a look on this site you'll notice people use prednisolone and prednisone interchangeably, think it may be the difference between USA and uk as to what they prescribe, but think there is only a slight difference in how they work as far as I can see!

Thanks for responding :) Prednisolone is the uk name for prednisone.

I was given it for scleritis (eyes) bit it just happened to coincide with my tummy playing up. I know it's used for crohns flares and the GI was saying based on that I should have had no symptoms at all.

They're not sure yet what's wrong with me. The biopsy says IBD but the colonoscopy looked fine. I'm wondering if he's saying it's not IBD because symptoms didn't go away completely on the steroids.
