I was put on prednisolone after having a flare up my CRP was only 33 after a short course of 30mg for five days then reduce every three days the symptoms came back within a few days so I got my CRP checked again and it was at 19.
So from today ive been put on the same dose.Is it normal for it to flare up so soon or wasn't the dose big enough? :ybatty:

It is fairly common for people to flare as they lower or come off pred, while you take the high dose, the inflammation is kept at bay, but once the dose is reduced it can return and that does happen quite frequently.

Pred is very good for brining a flare under control but it is not so good for keeping it there or for keeping crohns in remission. For this reason, is important to establish a maintenance medication that will stabilize things, with the ultimate aim being to keep you in remission. If you aren't taking a maintenance med then you need to discuss this with your doctor. If you are then the dose may need changing or you might need a change of medication.

Thanks been on mercaptopurine for 6 years only 25mg this is my first flare up since 2007 doctor thinks I might need to up to 50mg and I have the gastro clinic on the 21st so fingers crossed,

Condit,
My Doc had me on 40mg of pred. For 8 wks including the tapering off. It worked great each time and i got a deck built, the house painted and a tile floor laid starting at 2am. Lol. When i had another flare, i had my primary care Doc prescribe pred. for me and that REALLY pissed off my Gastro. Telling me her dose wasnt strong enough and i may have developed a tolerance to it. He has not prescribed it since. Now entocort at $$$ a round. Use pred. Wisely and it will work and less expense.

Also, was on mercaptopurine along with ramapril (blood pressure) and HTCZ . This combination lead to my first encounter with pancreatitis. Not a fun hospital stay. The Flagyl i was taking was then givin via IV and it tore my veins up. Had to move IV daily. Any introduction such as morphine via IV burned like a SOB.NIL by mouth when you have P-titis. Cream o wheat on 4Th day. Lost 30#s in 4 days.

I don't think my gastro doc will be happy either I've tried to contact them the past few days but he hasn't been in and there weren't any IBD nurses to talk to so ive just started taking the pred again but I haven't increased my mercaptopurine due to the fact I was on 50mg before then they put me down to 25mg.I do think tapering off so fst isn't good but he said the fact im on mercaptopurine and pred I have an increased chance of infections.

It had to be the holidays to have my first flare in years :(
