prednisone advice

I just finished my real first stint on prednisone for a crohn's flare. I started in January and just finished on Wed 4/11/12. My taper hadn't gone as well as I would have liked so it had to be slowed down. My question for anyone that has had any experience with prednisone is how long does it take for your adrenal glands to kick back in? Should I be concerned that I feel exhausted and not back to my old self. I guess I thought I would come off this medication and have my energy levels would be back to normal. My Iron and B12 levels are fine. I did have a bit of a headache and some nausea last night but I have been fighting allergies. What do you guys think? I just had a bone scan done as the insurance wanted it done and it was fine. Do you have suggestions for getting the adrenals up and going or is this just a wait it out thing?

Hello Pielady, and well done on getting off the Pred :) Having been through this too, I sympathise. It does seem to take a few weeks for the system to get back to normal. Fatigue, nausea, low blood pressure and joint pain are all common symptoms on a Pred taper. I felt pretty ropey for a few weeks after the last tab, but it does pass.
I found trying to stay active and keeping well-hydrated to help a bit. Best of luck with it, and hope the yuckies don't last too long.

It took my son about 2 weeks. He had headaches, a little nausea and was very tired for a while after he stopped the prednisone. I am sure it is somewhat different for everyone but he feels great right now, so hang in there. I am sure you will be feeling good again soon. :)
