So I've been on prednisone since May. Started at 40mg and down to 20mg now. I am supposed to stay on this dose bc I will be starting azathioprine once my labs come back. Problem I am having is I don't think the prednisone is working. I was up all night and in bed all day in pain. The pains are in my entire abdomen, sparatic and sharp intense pains. Then go away and leave behind a dull pain. I'm worried that the prednisone isn't working and that the azathioprine won't work either. Is anyone else having this issue?? If so, what's the next step??

I'm surprised they kept you on pred so long without starting a maintenance therapy. Azathioprine may work very well for you but it can take a few months to kick in.

My son didn't get relief with Pred even though he was on the starting dose for quite sometime. If pred worked for you in the beginning, then you may want to speak to your GI about upping your dose or switching you to entocort. Since it can take a few months for azathioprine to work the GI May want to make some changes before then.

Agree with Clash --- prednisone AND methylprednisolone didn't work for my son either--but Budesonide (Entocort) did --and without the systemic side effects you get from prednisone.. Budesonide is pretty gut specific ... AND you don't have to taper it when you DC it. Good luck!
