Hi,
I am 7 1/2 weeks pregnant. I have been on aziothiaprine for 4 months. My gastroenterologist knew my husband and I were trying for a baby so I'm assuming he felt it was ok to be taking that. However, I don't like the idea that I could be harming my baby. Does anyone know if I have any options? I am only experiencing mild pregnancy symptoms - no crohns symptoms!
Ps. I am currently overseas and my gastroenterologist has been utterly useless at responding to my emails. Please help me!
Thanks x

I was on 6-MP when I got pregnant (didn't know I was pregnant at the time)....after having been in the hospital for a flare.....I didn't have any complications from it.

If you check around the forums, I think there are some threads that talk about this too.

congrats!

Welcome to the forum, Polly!

I'm sure she'll come along when she gets a chance, but I'm going to go ahead and tag Angrybird in this. She might be able to help you out with pregnancy advice / concerns, although I don't know off the top of my head what medications she's taking. You might also want to have a look around the Parenting/TTC section of the forum. Quite a few members are pregnant or have had children while on medications for Crohn's.

I hope all goes well for you!

Hello and welcome to the forum :)

I am on Aza's 'sister' drug 6-mp and I have been on this since before I fell pregnant. My doc is fine for me to be on this throughout the pregnancy and afterwards, he has experience of treating others with both this and the Aza without issue. He also feels that if I came off this that I would have a very high risk of flaring up and then this could lead to big problems for me but also with what the body is then going through there is a higher chance of premature birth. The plan is that I am seen monthly by the GI team to make sure I am ok and at 30 and 34 weeks I have two extra scans to make sure the baby is gaining his weight due to the malabsorbtion issues you get with crohn's, I also have to stick to taking the folic acid for the entire pregnancy rather then the first 3 months like 'normal' pregnant women.

I hope this helps!

Hi I was on aza during my recent pregnancy and had absolutely no problems with it at all, in fact my crohns completely settled during pregnancy( having got pregnant shortly after a big flare). Again my doc said it may cause more problems if I came off it! I also breastfed whilst on it and again no problems!!

Hello and welcome!
Everything I was going to say has already been said, but I wanted to let you know that I was listening. Congrats on the pregnancy!
