Hello everyone! Hope you all are having a great summer and feeling fantastic :)

Just wanted to give an update on my pregnancy for anyone who might be interested. (I'm almost 22 years old- have had Moderate Crohn's for about 4 years in perianal/illeium area- currently taking only Humira injections every 2 weeks).

Well, things are going wonderfully! I'm 16 weeks & 4 days today (4 months along). My due date is still December 25th (funny story- we conceived the week of Easter and are due on 12/25 lol:) ) So far all blood screening has come back normal and my symptoms have been better then EVER! Ladies I've found the cure... Pregnancy! LOL I'm kidding of course...
Baby seems uneffected by Humira. Size and anatomy is perfect. No sign of low weight or any defects so far. My G.I. docs have asked me to plan for a C-section since I have a history of re-occuring abcesses and fistulas in the perianal region. They are afraid a natural birth will cause to much trauma to an already diseased area..... I suppose I'm less anxious knowing the birth will be planned and I wont have to worry about causing more damage to my butt. I dont know yet if they will allow me to breastfeed... my G.I.'s say no but the last time I spoke to someone from the Humira company themselves I was told Humira dosent pass through breastmilk (as far as they know). So I'm not sure what to plan for yet. Has anyone else heard that its safe to breastfeed on Humira??

AND it's a GIRL! I'll post again if anything happens in regards to my symptoms/humira effects. The Humira company has asked me to participate in thier study on babies exposed to Humira... let's hope all goes well!

Congratulations! I hope all continues to go well. I'd say if you're in remission chances are pretty good that you'll stay that way. So, it's just a matter of letting the little girl grow.

I'm on Humira (as of last week) but don't know about the breastfeeing scenario. I hope they can find a good answer for you by the time you reach that point.

Well, that ought to be your best Christmas present ever.

Amy

Ya, a girl.. if I recall correctly that is what you were hoping for!! So congrats on that. That would be awesome if you could participate in the study as research is what advances progress in fully understanding a disease and the drugs used to help manage it.

Pregnancy is such an exciting time - cherish it!!

A girl! Hooray for pink!!
I had no Crohn's symptoms during either of my pregnancies, and flared 15 months after each delivery. They say it's too far out to be related to the pregnancy.
Not to mention that breastfeeding is cheaper, and so much easier in the middle of the night.
Maybe you could stop the Humira and go back on after you are done?
I'm on Humira too, but wonder how long we are supposed to be on it. I don't know if we stay on forever or try a milder drug for maintenance or what. That seems too strong to be called a maintenance drug.
Good luck with your little princess! Keep us posted.

My vote for a name - Kelsey.

My hubby and I have decided on Madeline Jolie.... hubby's name is joe and he insists on having "jo" in there somewhere since I picked the first name lol. IDK about trying something different for maintenance while breastfeeding. Its a good suggestion but it will be hard for me to find the right one since I havent had any luck with steroids or any of the other pills they've tried me on. I need to get back in touch with the Humira people and talk more in depth about thier results so far regarding BF. I'll keep you ladies posted, thanks for the kind words =D
