Hi everyone!

I joined here after my first flareup but mostly lurked. I hope it's okay to just jump back in.

I found out that I'm about 8 weeks pregnant now and I've been taking Pentasa for some time (off and on due to money issues) now and the doctor advised to keep on them, so I will. I basically have a problem with constipation. I can't seem to go at all. I've even been eating whole grain musli and similar products but all that happens is queasiness (the doctor said that's normal) and gas (also apparently normal.) I don't want to push too hard because I noticed a little spot bleeding last time I did. The doctor also said this is normal as well. Is there anything I can take that might help me go?

Thanks in advance!
WW

Prunes or prune juice is meant to be really good at making you go. Also rhubarb is a great one for making your bowels move :) congrats on your pregnancy. I'm 8 weeks too!

Prune juice will clean you out. at least it did for me. With having an ileostomy, it kept going and going and going nonstop for several hours. Not a good thing as I was almost dehydrated from losing all that fluid. I love the taste but it doesn't agree with me. lol

I'm 36 weeks pregnant and I've had those issues. I've used the tea smooth move and that's helped a lot. I try to only take it when I need it seeings as no one knows the effect it will have on the fetus.

I dont really have a solution for you but wanted to share. When i was pregnant i got constipated a couple of times, I thought it was so awesome! LOL I had had Crohns/Diarrhea for 10 years prior to that and forgot what it was like to have a fully solid stool. I knew it wouldnt last so i just sat patiently every few hours and pushed lightly. Obviously it wasnt a bad case for me but i dont know who else i could tell about me enjoying constipation.

Congrats on your pregnancy!! :)

I'm going to move your thread to the Parenting/TCC (Trying to Conceive) forum where you may find more helpful info and your thread will be more visible to others who may be pregnant with crohn's.

Hi Wonder Weasel, I was pregnant 3 times w Crohn's. I was really young w my first two and since being constipated during pregnant is really common my docs really didn't treat it and told me the same as above and that's to drink prune juice. (Taste better ice cold). However, my last pregancy was really bad and finally they prescribed me something to help me go & safe for the baby. I forget the name but I think it was something w glucose. It was a thick substance and tasted really sugary. Went down smooth took it like a shot but worked wonders. Didn't have a flare the rest of my pregancy. Ask your doc. :)

Are you on prenatal vitamins? Many of them can be constipating. You may talk to your doctor about a prescription brand that doesn't cause constipation or one with an added stool softener...

Syrup of fig....very good. Get it from chemist. I had it for my self and when I had my son he was a few weeks old and had problems poohing and he had 2,5ml and it worked well x hope it helped
