I am having my first colonoscopy with prep tomorrow afternoon. The one and only colonoscopy was done while admitted with a blockage and I wouldn't have tolerated the prep.

I am staying about 1-1.5 hours away from the hospital at my 80 year old mother's house and am worried about driving so far. My colonoscopy is at 3 pm, I must arrive at 2 pm, so that means I leave the house around 12:30p.m. Will I be done visiting the bathroom by then?

I haven't picked up my prep meds but I remember the doc saying I take two ducalax (sp?) pills tonight and drink a jug of something. Next morning I drink another jug. Sorry I can't be more specific.

Should I arrange to stay in a hotel closer to the hospital? I had planned on staying the night after the colonoscopy since I won't be able to drive me to my mother's house that night.

Well you'll need someone to drive you to and from the hospital since you'll be to drugged up to drive, unless you do the scope without anesthesia(and I really don;t recommend that at all) You should also be close to a bathroom at all times. It sounds like you have a prep different from mine so I can;t say you'll be done rushing to the bathroom. If I were you I'd stay at a hotel closer to be on the safe side of things, an hour and a half is a very long drive.

Melissa's right. I was still going minutes before my scope. If you don't have any way to get closer, you will need to leave WAY before you planned on leaving, because you'll be stopping every few minutes to find a toilet. I don't recommend doing that, but if you're out of options...

Oh, good luck, sweetie.

You won't be able to drive after the colonoscopy, so you'll need someone to drive you. I also recommend staying at the hotel the night before the colonoscopy, as you will probably still be needing the bathroom at that point. I do recommend that if you stay at a hotel, you bring your own TP, as you will want the softest stuff possible.

Good luck!

I had to travel once and had a hotel. My husband was with me. Hospitals will not let you out without a driver. Unless you don't plan on being on any sedatives and I highly recommend that you do!

I have only had one and I WISH I'd listened and gotten the baby wipes for my bottom. I realize this reply is late but I figured I'd throw in my 2 cents in case someone else comes along and reads it looking for the same advice. GET THE BABY WIPES! YOU'LL NEED THEM!

PS I hope your procedure is going smoothly! GOOD LUCK!
