Hey guys just wondering if the garden of life primal defense probiotics are as good as they claim thinking of trying them

Does anyone know if jordan reuben the creator of this stuff was really as sick as he claims and did theese probiotics actually help him

Hi! I can only speak of our experiences with Garden of Life products, we are very happy. They are apparently organic and whole food based. We use Primal Defense as well as their Vitamin D and FYI Ultra. I must say our son has been feeling really great since being on them and is now having his first 'normal' bm's in over two years! I don't know if that is a coincidence, but I don't really care, we will keep taking them!!! It is also handy that they are reasonably priced and don't need refrigeration.
Cheers.

Ams-qld where abouts do you order them from locally or from overseas I found a website called crohns.net and there stuff seems reasonably priced but I havent looked into the shipping yet

Hi Ozboz, I have an American friend who orders them from Vitacost (check out their webpage) which is the company she always buys her supplements from and reckons they are great priced. She then gets them shipped to me. I have never tried a local distributor but I would definately compare the prices. It is often alot cheaper to get them direct from the States and pay postage I think. I would research Garden of Life website and decide what you want to try. I have read Jordan's books and they were worth a read, just got them from the library. Hope you are well atm. Cheers.

Hi ams-qld,

Does your son take the probiotic in conjunction with the Makers Diet or just the supplements?
Regards,
Jordan

I tried the regular formula years ago and it worked okay, but I would sometimes get a vague achey feeling in my stomach shortly after taking them. This feeling didn't last too long or amount to anything. Recently I tried the Ultra formula, and this stuff worked for me, ache-free. However, in order for it to work very well, I need to take at least 4-6 a day on an empty stomach (3:morning/3:night). To GOL's credit, this stuff survived upper 80 degree farenheit temps for a couple hours on my front porch.

Before that my favorite was Jarrow EPS, about the same dosage. Now my favorite is a liquid formula from a small company called Living Streams (website might be livingstreamsmission.com), and I love this stuff. It's a Lactobacillus *Paracasei and Curvatus (not sure if other companies offer this strain or similar product) dominant mix and you literally only need like 6 drops a day (2:breakfast/dinner/bedtime). This stuff doen't say to refrigerate it, but I do. Super potent.

Hi Jam300, my son is on a modified diet but not the Maker's Diet. He is on low fiber, not too much milk, no nuts, no seeds, no popcorn, peas, corn, etc. He only has fruit without skin and cooked vegies. I am trying the simplest changes for my son so he doesn't get too frustrated with his crohn's!! He takes 4 Primal Defense Ultra per day, 2 FYI Ultra's and also 2 of another over the counter brand of probiotic. The biggest improvement I saw with him was with the introduction of the FYI Ultra. I think becasue it has the added curcumin and ginger etc, which a lot of people on this forum seem to have found success with. :ysmile:

Curcumin does seem to be very well recieved on this forum. If my symptoms were ever to intensify it'd be the first supplement i'd look at alongisde Fish oil.

Garden of Life Probiotics are one of the better on the market.

If you want probiotics I recommend making your own water kefir. It comes with loads of probiotics more potent than anything you'll find in the store, cheap, easy and for those who are soda addicts this is the perfect healthy alternative.

Theres plenty of videos on youtube on how to make it.

Yeah problem is I can't tolerate an dairy I get bad D,cramps and bad pain not to mention the wet gas thank you for the suggestion but dairy isn't for me at the moment

Yeah I read his book "The Maker's Diet". I found his personal story very interesting and his book was honestly a good read and I would recommend it to anyone as it does bring up some very good points.

His whole approach is based on how God (Christian God) wanted us to eat. It's basically based on ancient Jewish dietary laws and restrictions. So no pork and no shell fish etc etc. But the main point he makes and is what i agree with, is that people need to eat real food.

I am Atheist so personally the God diet thing didn't pertain to me but the real food aspect certainly was along the same lines I thought.

The Garden of Life has some amazing supplements, and if i ever suggest certain vitamin or mineral supplements they are at the top of my list.

I took the primal defense probiotics for about a year and a half... was it a miracle saver? no, did i feel better on them? I couldn't honestly tell you. I didn't notice a huge difference, but if you can afford them then why not at least give them a try.

Personally I discontinued them because I believe that if you eat healthy than the body will create it's own environment where this beneficial bacteria will grow and I didn't want to try to force certain bacterias to grow in my gut if my body didn't want them.

I believe each body has their own systems of bacterias and I think it's a shot in the dark to pick a few beneficial bacterias, capsule them, and hope that's the bacteria your body wants or would create an environment for.

Having said that I do like his company and think he is doing a lot to help spread awareness on the power of nutrition.

Have you had your Vitamin levels tested recently?

I would take this multi vitamin if you really wanted to, but really I wouldn't suggest taking a multi vitamin as they give people a false sense of security.

Multi vitamins can only be so big (as to not choke on:)) so they put all the vitamins in, but its the amount of each vitamin that concerns me. For example in this multi vitamin there is 20mg of Vitamin b3 (niacin) while in this companies B3 vitamin supplement there is 500mg. 20mg isn't enough but people will think that by taking a multi vitamin they are safe.

I think getting your levels tested and then purchasing supplements based off those results is safer, more effective, and may even save money.
