Hi there,

I just wanted to let everyone know that I have been taking a good quality probiotic for over a year now and I havn't gotten a flare up ever since : )

I used to have regular blood in stool since I was diagnosed in 2005, and there were times when I had very bad episodes with lots of bleeding!

But ever since my Naturopath prescribed me a good quality probiotics in May of last year, I have been quite great! I have even been eating more junk food again and cheese, but I still try to limit it just to be healthy in general : )

I have been getting my probiotics from Nature's Sunshine, but you need a certified Naturopath to order it for you. But any other good quality probiotics should be okay. All the best of luck to everyone : )

I think your headline is a bit misleading.

Probiotics doesnt cure Crohns. It maybe helps your gut a bit during remission but it doesnt CURE it.

I agree with Danico that "cure" is not a scientifically accurate description, and probably should be edited..
Having said that, something in my combination of probiotics, Vit D and fish oil (plus Sulphasalazine) is working - in remission at this stage.
My GI tells me probiotics are "soft science" for Crohn's Disease (I think they have been shown to help in post surgical "pouchitis")
So if it works, and with minimal side effects, keep going - but maybe stop short of claiming a "cure"!! :)

Hi Positivity7, welcome to the forum. I've edited the title of this thread, because, as the others above me have mentioned, there is no cure for Crohn's. I'm glad to hear that probiotics seem have put you into remission (have you had bloodwork, scopes, etc to confirm that you're in remission? Lack of bleeding doesn't necessarily mean remission, you can feel okay but still have inflammation doing "silent" damage). I hope you are indeed in remission and that it lasts a long time.

Hi there Charles! Really great to hear you are doing well and thank you for sharing a great success and experience!! I am very happy for you and appreciate your time taken to try and share a possible way to healing.

Follow ups are important as mentioned above. Forgive me if i am wrong but I notice when someone post 'im in remission and im on xyz medication' no one ask how do you know, did you have labs, scopes, etc.? Why is that?

I hope you enjoy your good feeling, healing and long may it last. Cheers! Thank you again for sharing.

Interesting. I've been dong much better as of late. A switch to Gluten Free has been the mainstay of my dietary changes. However, I have also been taking Vitamin D & Omega 3 for several months now & just recently added a Probiotic. Perhaps, I am coincidently in a "remission" state.

Hi there,

Thanks for your feedback : )

I did not want to offend anyone, .... my intent was just to try to help as much people as possible because I have suffered Crohn's and regular blood in my stool since 2005, and even very severe bleeding at times! I really hope others will not have to suffer as much as I did!

Again, I have not experienced any blood in my stool soon after I started taking a very good quality probiotics which was over a year ago. It feels like a MIRACLE to me, and I hope I can give back and help others with my post : )

All the best to all of you,

Charles

My 11 year old daughter has been recently diagnosed with Crohn's and her GI wants to get her started on Remicade to aggressively deal with a fistula she has in her lower intestine. Can anyone give me some feedback on Remicade? I've read some pretty scary stuff regarding the potential side effects.

Hi. I'm starting remicade soon. I've heard great things about it. Its important to stop inflammation, including inflammation that is causing damage with no symptoms (more dangerous in my opinion).
Untreated or under treated crohns can cause serious complications down the road.

Hi Prof

I have a friend on remicade and he feels like it has been a life saver for him. I think he gets an infusion every 8 weeks. and for 6 of those weeks he feels great and for the last couple he feels a bit slugging but nowhere near as bad as he was.

I wish your daughter all the best

Hi there,

I just wanted to answer your question if I got retested for Crohn's. I actually am afraid to go back and see my Gastroenterologist to get retested for my Crohn's, lol. I had a lot of bad experiences, and he also wanted to remove a part of my intestines!!!

I therefore refused and I decided to do a lot of research on natural treatments without having to get an operation! I was still taking my medication in the past, but I was still getting blood in my stool even with the medication!

I eventually saw a Naturopath last year who told me that her friend claimed that he was cured (in remission) from his Crohn's. I therefore started taking the good quality probiotic, and here I am now feeling much better for over a year : )

But I however never went back to my Gastroenterologist to get checked. I however have been feeling great for over a year now! I admit that I even go through periods of binging on junk food without any consequences, lol. I am "choosing" to try and eat better just for the sake of being healthier, and not because of fear of side effects as in the past.

I should also mention that ever since I started taking the good quality probiotics, I have been able to sleep like a baby! Prior to taking probiotics, I was suffering a bad case of insomnia! And would you also believe that my seasonal allergies are much better as well! I have been suffering from a real bad case of allergies ever since I was a little boy, and I was very shocked that during these past 2 summers, I havn't had much problems!

I actually thought that we havn't had a bad allergy season, but my friends have confirmed to me that allergy season has actually been worse during these past 2 summers here in Montreal, Canada!

Anyways, again I just want to share to others how a good quality probiotics has really helped my health in many ways, and I really hope my experience can help others as well! When I was doing a lot of research in the past, and I read through many forums, I was very frustrated when many people shared many natural medicines they have been trying, but most people do not follow up once they are feeling better! The minute people are much better, it is like they disappear from the forum, and totally forget about the other people who are desperately seeking for help!

Anyways, I promised myself to not be like one of these people, and I even marked it on my calendar as a reminder to share with as much people as possible once I found something that helped me : )

So I really hope my experience can help many others as well : )

Best Wishes to everyone,

Charles
