proctitis and crohn's??
Hello everybody,
I have a question please. I'm a 33 year old female. I haven't been diagnosed with crohn's yet. All I have been told is that I'm suffering from undetermined corhn's. I have been suffering from a flare up since last September and was put on Pred 40 mg, Salofalk 4 gm and 175 mg Azathioprine. During the last month, i notced improvement in my flare up and it seemend to be controlled (may be aza has kicked in). Also, I statred tapering Pred and I reached 2.5 mg every other day. So far so good.
The problem started when my diarrhea increased and anal fissures became very painful. I saw a surgeon and he confirmend that my fissures were healing. However, things became worse; diarrheal bouts increased, there was pus and mucus, and leakage of stool. I saw another surgeon. This time he examined me with a proctoscope and found proctitis. I was prescribed rectal antibitoc suppositories once per day for 10 days, a topical cream and a daily enema cort. In addition, he insisted that my GI doctor approved of the medication. I saw my GI who, in turn, increased the dose of the rectal antibiotic to a suppository every 12 hrs for 10 day and made me return again to 2.5 mg Pred for 2 weeks.
These suppositories are giving me hard time. I'm suffereing from severe nausea. I called my GI doctor and he advised me to take 2 daily shots of Zofran 4 ml to combat nausea for 10 days and refused to change med. Today, is day 7 and I can't take it any more. Nausea is horrible and i think Zofran has lost its effect. What shall I do? should I dicontinue this metriandazole antibiotic?
Also, I'm having severe constipation after having 10 or more bowel movements per day. Any clue? The worst thing also is that my intestines flared up again and I'm having abdominal pain.
The important question is: Has anybody suffered from crohn's and proctitis at the same time? Is it normal? Would this proctitis become chronic as my crohn's?
Thanx
