Hi Everyone,

I really need some advice and help.
I have Crohn's\Colitis and have already had part of my colon removed. After 3 years remission and regular Infliximab infusions every 6 weeks things are starting to go downhill.
My colonoscopy in July diagnosed me with Proctitis low down in my rectum which was causing me loads of pain going to the toilet and also leakage I was told to start take Steroid Suppositories which I did.

We are now in November and 2 months’ worth of Steroid suppositories and 2 Infliximab infusions and still no improvement. I went for a Flexi-Sig on Wednesday and they said it was still badly inflamed with ulceration. Currently I am waiting for an appointment with my consultant to discuss what my options are.

Have any of you had this issues with low down inflammation in your rectum? Would it be worth starting humira maybe?
Tramadol is my friend at the moment but makes me really constipated! I then take lactulose to help which then goes the other way. I feel like I am in a circle here?? Is there any other pain relief that doesn’t constipate you?

Hi and welcome.
Sorry I'm not able to offer any help with your questions.
Others will be along.
Sending you my support.

Hi,

My Crohn's Colitis started with proctitis - lots of painful trips to the loo with fresh blood, etc. I found 5-ASA suppositories (various brands - Asacol, Pentasa?) helpful for the immediate problem, but it was only a course of Prednisolone that really helped to get on top of it while I was starting on azathioprine.

Good old Sudacrem nappy rash cream also gave relief for any external soreness. I think I survived on a diet of bananas and flapjacks, too! They gave me some energy along with soluble fibre, helpful if your painkillers are bunging you up.

Hi and welcome! I'm afraid that I'm not going to be much help either. However, I have Ulcerative Proctitis along with Ulcerative Colitis. As in my signature, my 2 main medications are Pentasa & Canasa which are 5ASA medications.

I occasionally have fresh blood along with mucus. But, am still learning as far as what is best for me. I hope that you can find the answers you're looking for on here. In the meantime, we're here if you need support and/or someone to talk to. We also have a new Ulcerative Proctitis Support Group if you'd like to take a look.

My son who has crohns was diagnoised with Proctitis in his rectum in October after a colonoscopy. His symptoms had been constant toilet visits and stomach pain and generally flaring symptoms. He was given mesaliazine [ Salofalk ] 1g rectal foam to use. This has made a huge difference to him and [ touch wood] seems to be working.

Maybe it would be worth asking your GI to prescibe this and see if this works? Have you tried co codamol for the pain? I hope you find something as I know how bad this came be and how it affected Josh.

I have Crohns in my rectum which is generally managed with asacol suppositories. However, during a recent bad patch my consultant recommended a week of metronidazole suppositories, which are an antibiotic, which worked wonders. Now back on the asacol.

Oh jimbo, poor old you :(
I had proctitis, and have UC and probably crohns, and was prescribed most of the stuff you mention. However, oral steroids...prednisolone...for nine weeks, were the only thing which worked, and work they did! I hated taking it but it really was a miracle cure for me. I have my fingers firmly crossed it continues.
I hope they do their stuff for you.

Hi there

I have proctitis down at the tail end aswell and Im able to manage it using salofalk rectal suppositories, I take one most nights and also take 1 or 2 stool softner drinks a day and im also on azathioprine and asacol daily. this seems to manage the symptoms pretty well and if I ever see a drop of bloodin the toilet I used to panic thinking I was having a flair, but once id taken a suppositoriy the blood usually disappeared the next day.

make sure your stool is soft because it makes it much easier to pass instead of the pain of trying to force out dried harder stool.

best of luck mate

Nicky
