Well my profession was a laborer in construction work. And my mom and other family members don't think I will be able to return to this type of work since I've had 3 surgeries in the last few months. And how hard on your body It can be. I know it was very hard on me last year with the heavy lifting and stress. Can anyone tell me if I can actually stay in construction or if I should find a new profession?

Hello Brad, hubby worked 23 years as a laborer worker when he had his last surgery in 2006 his CRS & GI didn't want him to go back( looking back he should have applied for SSDI) talk to your GI & CRS let them no about your job duties make sure you tell them everything lol the final decision would be up to you but maybe discussing it with your family & DR's will help with your decision.

Thank you pink&green. I will talk to them. I was just wondering because I know as of right now I know I couldn't do the work. But I am pretty much still recovering from a 6 month flare and 3 surgeries in 2 months. So I know I have a while before I go back.

Hi Brad. It's a tough place to be. Realizing your body just isn't cut out for a certain kind of work anymore - especially if it's all you know. Best of luck going forward.

I'm questioning my ability to work full-time hours anymore; and I don't have a physically demanding job like yours. The last couple of years have been difficult.

Hey Brad. I agree with pink&green. Talk to your docs and go from there. I think it would be possible for you to get back out there in the work field. After my battle and three surgeries in 8 months I was out of work for a year for recovery. (body had to adjust to no colon and a J-pouch) But once I got the "OK" from my doctors and I felt like I could work, I jumped right into a new laborer possition and was able to handle pretty well. I explained to my lead my situation and that I would have to have more frequent "breaks" than my co-workers and I was good. I hope that things work out for you. Best of luck!
