public speaking coupled with crohns

I am not a fan of speaking in front of an audience, most people aren't and all get a little sick to the stomach thinking about it. I guess I am just extra worried about problems due to the disease. I have to make presentation for classes, I am always worried about dehydration, fainting, dizziness, and needing to goto the bathroom. I wish there was a full proof way to know I can do it stand up straight, feel good, have confidence and get my piece over with.

I don't know if you believe in homeopathic remedies at all, but there is a really good one from Heel homeopathics called Nervoheel. It just takes the edge off the nervousness, without any side effects. I need it every once in a while, and Mitch takes it on test days at school etc. I find it takes about 4 pills to do the job.

Oh, and don't take it close to drinking coffee or tea or brushing your teeth (peppermint). I think it's about an hour that you want to wait, but I'd have to double check.

Here's a little blurb about homeopathic meds, how they work and overdoses.

Are there any side effects ... ?
Homeopathy influences the body's energy rather than its chemical balance. Hence, the remedies do not cause side effects since there is no chemical trace to accumulate in the tissues. For the same reasons, it is not possible to take an overdose of homeopathic medicine in the same way as in allopathic medicine (which works on a chemical level) Homeopathic remedies are therefore not intrinsically dangerous. Yet, they are capable in stimulating the body's reactive forces powerfully and should be treated with respect.

I do presentations and public speaking quite frequently. I also rue it when I'm afraid I might have an attack - of course, it doesn't help that we stress before standing in front of an audience.

My advice: eat safe foods the day before and morning of. No caffeine or anything that induces your bowels.

Just remember...what's the worst that can happen? You have to pause and use the restroom. That ain't so horrible. Do the best you can!

I used to get stage fright but the more I've been in front of people the less nervous I became. I still get the butterflies before a show or a speech or something but other than that I don't really worry about it. If you are saying something in front of a class don't worry about it because everyone in that class feels the same as you. If you are the one who gets up with confidence you will get a higher grade. I got a higher grade then my partner on a presentation because I didn't "appear" nervous.

I'm quite relaxed about speaking in public now, but it was very different when I did it for the first time. I decided to pour myself out a class of water from a little decanter before I started. My hands were shaking so badly I just tipped the whole lot over the table... everyone was just sitting there watching me.
However relaxed I feel now, I always make sure that I fill up the glass before anyone comes into the room...

It's not so much the speaking in public, its more the what if this or that happens due to crohn's when I am speaking. I am going to eat safe foods, and probably eat lots of stuff to bulk up that day. Oh and gatorade and ensure will certainly be my friend.

I have the same problem, kind of. I'm really shy, so my stomach starts killing me whenever I have to socialize. Like, even talking to new people makes me really nervous for some reason, and then my belly starts acting up. Group projects, speaking up in class, and doing presentations also make my stomach hurt. It's no fun. =/

This is the ONLY place, other than alone w/Josh, where I feel like I can be myself.

Wow... I'm such an (_l_)! Sorry. I never finished my thought.

At work, I have to go to meetings where I present graphs and material and crap like that. I feel like I black out the whole time. I get nauseous and my stomach starts talking. My hands shake and I feel like I'm going to poo myself lol

I have read that most people's number one fear is speaking in public so your not alone.

My job requires me to give frequent presentations and I am always somewhat nervous before hand. I find I can control my nerves if I am properly prepared. Take some time to practice your presentation. Practice out loud, its important to hear yourself talk so you can set the right pace for the presentation. If I have an important presentation, I will practice in front of a friend or co-worker that I am really comfortable with and will provide constructive feedback. Get a good night's sleep and have all the last minute details complete ahead of time so you don't feel rushed the day of the presentation. I believe that preparation will relieve a lot of your stress. Good luck, you will do fine.
