Question about 6mp

I have been on 6 mp for about 2weeks. Has anybody had hair loss? I did take imuran for a month and had to stop taking it because of a rash and I know 6 mp is a sister drug to imuran. I know I'm losing more hair than I normally do when I wash my hair I had really thick hair that is now kinda thin.

Hi joyce welcome! :big wave: yes, I have hair loss but not from 6mp, I react horribly on it. Prednisone and the disease itself can cause hair loss. Our nutrition lacks absorption so we need to up the Calcium and Magnesium and Vitamin D3. I have had crohns along time and therefore lots of the meds created havoc...very nice disease this is eh?

Thanks Jettalady. I actually just came off of predinsone maybe three weeks ago. I do take a multi vitamin every day. Just checking cause I may need to call my dr about it. I know he said after my surgery he was saving remicade for later in case the 6mp and imuran didn't work. I was dx in 1987. So I have had it a long time and was in remission for a while.

I had a flare last summer, and went back on pred and 6mp. My hair thinned horribly, but I think it was the pred (always happens to me with pred). Do you have a regular hairdresser? If so, find out if your hair is actually falling out or just breaking off. My hairdresser said that my hair was breaking off, not falling out like I thought it was. If it had been falling out she said there were speciality shampoos to help with that, but since it was breaking off I just had to be very careful with it (I'm not coloring or heat-styling. And I just use wide-tooth combs and this little "comb-'brush'" my hairdresser gave me so I don't break more hair).

I think it was about a month after I stopped the pred that my hair stopped breaking so much. Now I'm waiting for the new growth to get a bit longer so that it doesn't stick straight out from my head...

I just found this great conditioner from L'Occitane ("5 Essential Oils: Repairing") that has lavender, rosemary, and sweet almond oil in it - it's really making my hair look more healthy/not so "medicated". In my part of the world it's about $17 a bottle, but it's worth it to me.

I had a bad reaction to both of thoses meds! A rash all over my body, hives!
During high doses of Pred, I lost a lot of hair, or so I thought! Like Sabrina said, it was breaking off not falling out! My hairdresser has told me it's a lot better now, I've been off Pred 3 months.
You'll probably find yours will do the same, give it time, you're only 3 weeks off the Pred.

Thanks Joan and Sabrina I hope is was the pred. Wasn't sure since it's been a long time like back in 87 that I was on it. I'll go by see my hair dresser this week. Sabrina where did you find that conditioner. I have been using WEN cleansing conditioner it works pretty good you just have to comb thru it on the shower And I lose a lot of hair there and then when I comb thru it after I get lose a lot then too.

That sounds a lot like my hair breakage - I'd lose so much in the shower it would totally clog up the hair trap. Freaked me out. Cried a time or two as well.

I keep wanting to try that WEN stuff! Does it make your hair look like those models in the commercials? :ycool:

I was in St. Louis last weekend and got my conditioner at the L'Occitane store in the mall. (Good thing I'm not closer to St. Louis or I'm have no money and a very bad credit score :lol The website (loccitane.com), if I remember correctly, has a way to chose your country/find places to purchase/order. The repairing conditioner actually sounds similar to the WEN stuff - essential oils and almond oil, etc.

It actually does look pretty good I think it's shines pretty good I also used this stuff called moroccan hair oil it good also but it's about 45.00 a bottle and last a really long time. Thanks I'll check that website out

Hey I have another question for you all. How long after the pred. Does it take for the peach fuss to go away off your face? It looks like it has started to go away.
