I have Osteoarthritis of my knees and hip, and back, can this be related to my crohn's? i am wondering

Hi,
I know that medications that are used to treat crohns can cause osteoporosis such as prednisone. I was given calcium supplements and have had bone density scans to check.
I am not completely sure if crohns itself would cause it but it seems possible if you had a restricted diet because of crohns disease or didn't absorb everything your body needed. Someone might be along soon who might know more.
Hope this helps a little bit x

Hi Marti
Welcome to the forum.
There is a crohn's arthritis which causes sacrorileitis and can move around the body joints.
I have a severe osteoarthritis in my right knee and it becomes a challenge to walk and go to the gym.
I also get an arthritis which seems to move quite swiftly from hands and fingers down to ankles and toes and around hips and joints-----quite miserable at times.
I am fortunate in that regular tylenol will help this so I get some sleep. It seems to occur when I have a crohn's flare.
The right knee problem comes from an old injury and is different to those other pains.
Feel better soon
Hugs and best wishes
Trysha

Osteoarthritis is often a result of the meds we take. Prednisone especially long term use is notorious for this; I have to take Aradia infusions because long term pred caused both of my hips to fracture due to OA.

Also, sometimes we can't absorb Calcium very well because of the Crohn's and that adds to the problem.
