My son, EJ, started Humira this spring and we have noticed with each dose a little more swelling around the site, a little more redness and a little more itching. The nurse assures us this is all common but it seems to get a little worse each time. Nothing unbearable yet but I'd like to hopefully learn some tips to manage these minor irritations. Thanks all!!

Hmm, don't know is the short answer. I don't get injections site reactions at all.
Are you varying the site, either side and above below belly button, or different thigh each time. Could try taking a Benadryl, or another anti-histamine,an hour before the injection.

Thanks Beth! I though about just pming you, as you seem to be the resident Humira guru:) His last shot was Fri. and redness and itching still persisted last night. He's still abed so not sure about this morning. If no one else chimes in, we'll try the benadryl next time.

Agreed; try the Benadryl first.

Funny how our bodies are so different. I started out with really bad injection site reactions. First, my doc got me to try the Benadryl 1hr before the injection, (which didn't work for me, the reaction was too big). So, I tried taking pred before each injection, which worked, but now I don't need the pred at all and I hardly get a reaction anymore.

Eeeek! Thanks Sharon! I hope it doesn't get so serious we need to entertain pred!

The redness and itching is gone today so it only lasted about 36 hours.
