So I currently trying the convatec filter bags for my new ileostomy. The first bag lasted for about one and a half days before stuff started to leak through the filter when I pressed down on the bag.

So I changed the bag yesterday, and currently am having no problems with leaks...

Do you think it was just a bum first bag? Or maybe it got wet when I showered...I covered it with one of the sticker things, but it was kind of wet when I felt it anyway.

So I was just wondering if other people have had any problems with using the filter bags. Like with leaks and such? Or what you might think the best brands are...

Hi Sweetpea,

Every single bag I have tried has had filters. The only issue I really find is that once you lay down horizontally and the poop has a chance to get to the filter they block and are of no use. If you are sitting up or standing for most of the day gravity makes the poop go down and not up so the filters work well.

So in my experience as soon as you put on a bag and go to bed at night that's the end of the filters usefullness, therefore on day 2 if you push down on the bag I'd imagine no air can get out so some of the poopyness that has blocked the filter is coming out instead.

Having used many bags I find the Coloplast Assura bags the best for filters. Weirdly the Coloplast Sensura has two filters, as opposed to the Assura's one, but I find they really don't work as well.

Hope some of that helps! :thumleft:
