:sign0085:Hello ladies, I need some advice, or input. The last year has been awful for me with the worst flare of my life. Finally things are getting a bit under control with the crohns. All last year while flaring Ive been battling constant vag problems...every couple of weeks, a yeast infection, bacteria infection, group B strep infection, missed menstral cycles...u name it, ive had it. So here it is...a year later and Im still having these same issues. I had my IUD removed in the ER due to severe infection....it was terrible to go throuh. Im on a ton of antibiotics. Saw OB today and he commented on the amount of infection that was still present in my vag...and wrote me ANOTHER perscription for the infection, and sent me on my way. The DR in the ER seemed to think I needed a DNC of my uterus to try and clear things up. Today my OB blew that off completely saing I dont need anything of such....Im so confused!! What do I do....what are my drs missing. Is it all Crohns related?? Is my female problems causing my Crohns problems...I just need to know....has this ever happened to any of you, or do you have any info you can share with me?? I really need advice....Im so LOST!!:sign0085:

Have they ruled out a fistula? I have/had endemetriosis and Crohn's. My current GI says I probably (even after hysterectomy) still have some endemetriosis issues. He theorizes that the 2 are connected in some way but stresses it is only a theory. I had 6 months of infection before my hysterectomy and during the surgery they found the lovely Crohn's. I hope you are taking probiotics while on all of the antibiotics. Oh...another thing, I had a horrible "yeast infection" a few years ago. It went away after they resolved my anemia. Sometimes malnutrition messes up a lot of things we don't even consider.

I wish I had a wonderful answer for you. There are so many dotted lines spiraling out from Crohn's.
Cyber hugs!

I agree with Wendy. But i also note you're on prednisone, which weakens your immune system to fight off infection. Then add in antibiotics, and you have a recipe for thrush, etc. I just had a fistula thru my fallopian tubes (found during surgery) so it's possible Wendy is correct. I can tell you that 3 CT scans didn't catch that fistula I had, so Dr's can certainly miss them! 3 in close order I might add. Only in surgury did they find it. (and tell me I have a horrendous pain tolerance...well duh...you get used to pain with this crap disease!)

Hi BLM,

To add to the above I also see you are on remicade... As we all know it impacts on the immune system and compounded with the pred already mentioned it could well be your body just hasnt got the ability to "bounce back" as fast as it would have in the past.

I developed both viral and bacterial chest and sinus infections on boxing day, have had 5 courses of antibiotics, tried reducing pred - got to the day when I was due to drop to 10mg from 15mg and GP put me straight back up to 40mg again! That was 4wks ago now and have started reducing the pred last tuesday again. Finished the 5th course of antibiotics yesterday.

Its only been since last weekend that I felt I may finally be turning the corner. As I am asthmatic I ended up in hospital for 9 days in January at my worst and on intravenous drugs to help my breathing and nebulised drugs right up until last week on top of my inhalers.

My point about all of the above is I have NEVER had infection like it! The GP's have said everyone is having a tough time this year with flu etc and taking 4wks to recover and because I am so immunosuppressed it has wiped the floor with me.

Gastro have now taken the step of cancelling my remicade for the next few months - which means other than the pred in my system I have nothing for my crohns at present and of course as I am now 4wks behind on my infusions the ole guts aint that great. They will then review things again when I am more well overall. They told me they were concerned the remicade had immunosuppressed me so much I just wasnt recovering chest wise. Keep in mind though that I have been having it every 6wks and would have been on remi 4yrs this coming May.

So perhaps its the combo of the two that is making it difficult for the infection to clear for you? Have they sent swabs to ensure they are treating the infection with the right antibiotic that it is sensitive to? As gross as it sounds I did 2 different sputum/spit specimens and one came back with an influenza bacteria and am awaiting the results of the second one tomorrow. But for the first time in all those weeks my chest is finally clear and the GP yesterday was amazed when she listened to it ;-)

Truly hope you get some improvement and relief soon. Thinking of you. ((hugs))
