Hello I have a question what do you guys take for inflammed joints?? My index finger on my left hand where the second knuckle is it's so inflammed inwhich I can not straighten it nor bend it. It's been three weeks and it's still the same and now my other three fingers beside that one are starting to hurt when I bend then so I try to keep those three moving so they don't go stiff like the index one. I'm starting to think it is some kind of arthritis, I have a doctors appointment for this Thursday and I know u can't take advil(which I always did for my jaw) cause of my crohns but what can I take for this?? I still have a day to go before my dr appointment and I can't stand the stiffness and pain. Heard tylenol doesn't do anything for the swelling. Any advice :)

'Voltarol 'which is an anti inflam gel that contains diclofenic or
'Ibugel' which is the same but contains Ibuprofen
both are NSAIDS but are topical and won't enter your system or gut, but tell your pharmasist that you have Crohns to be on the safe side, I've used both successfully for joint pains.
xx

I sympathize with you.
I've just started getting joint pain in my fingers, especially the pinky on my left hand. I used to get terrible pain in my knee when I was first diagnosed with CD years ago, but just this past week my fingers are getting very stiff and sore. Today it hurt to hold the steering wheel in my car and I'm even waking up with the pain. I'm just getting over a bad flare up that ended up with me having a bowel resection in March. I'm taking imuran (azathioprine) and am completely off steroids (Hooray!). I've started taking glucosemine(spelling?) and fish oils. I've just made a dr appt next week to talk it over. The pain is getting me down. It seems I start to feel better and pain free in one area and it starts somewhere else!
Does anyone know if the joint pain is from the crohn's or from the medication i'm taking for crohn's?

One of the side effects listed is muscle aches and pains. I know that is slightly different than joint pains, but it could be a side effect. On the other hand, I have heard others say they had joint problems prior to take aza and it really helped lessen the pain. Joan (Astra101) was experiencing severe joint pain recently after coming off of Pred, so perhaps it's a side effect of being off the pred. IF it becomes bothersome, I'd phone your doc. Otherwise, Joan has listed some good products to remedy the pain and I'm sure you could find more by reading the thread I posted earlier here or on the forums :) Hope that helps some, Jennifer.
