Hey guys,
So there is a possibility that my son, in addition to Crohn's, has the EoE thing. The doc is wanting to check for this when we next do scopes in a month or so. Questions I have are: Who on here has a child with the EoE, and what sort of allergy testing did they do on your kid after diagnosis? How has your treatment plan been different due to EoE with the Crohn's? I have been reading about it, and it seems to be a food allergy related problem. So does just removing the food allergens make it better for most people? How different is the allergy testing for this different from broad allergy testing? (My son was tested for allergens a few years ago, and was mostly unreactive. He tends to get hives easily though, for no apparent reason we can document to a specific trigger.) I saw that people sometimes need steroids or dilation therapy, but am not sure how often that is necessary. Right now, we are doing Elecare Jr via NG tube to help his body heal with the Remicade. But the doctor said it would also help with EoE symptoms. My son has had lots of heartburn, that has only improved marginally since we began the NG tube feedings. And he seemed mostly unresponsive to most of the heartburn meds. We currently have him on Nexium, which seems to help some, but he still has to have a Zantac 150 in the evenings. Would love to get this heartburn under control. For now, we are about to reintro foods into his diet, along with the EN, so hopefully he will be on a full normal diet when we do the scopes. Any info parents have who have dealt with this is helpful. Thanks.

Most of your questions can be answered by KFA .
I will try my best but....
Kiddo doesn't have EoE
Dilation typically is only needed for adults with untreated or undx EoE.
Food triggers it. It is a mixed allergic reaction .
Meaning it doesn't cause anaphylaxis but does trigger EOS .
It can be patchy
Main treatment is to figure out the triggers and remive them
Most kids 75% clear on a diet free of the top eight allergens
If not they start EEN and slowly trial foods 1-3 at a time and rescope after 6-8 weeks until they have a full diet
Allergy testing is not very accurate for EoE . Patch testing has mixed results.
Any food can be a trigger.

One other thing to have them look into is mcas .
Mast cell activation syndrome

Most EoE kids are atopic ( including hives asthma ezcema etc)

MLP said it right.
KFA will answer a lot of questions for you.

As for Grace she has EgE. Her disease is everywhere BUT the esophagus.
Grace is still on full EEN because we can't find enough safe foods for her to eat.
However, she seems to be on the rarer side and most don't need EEN.

I hope he gets answers.

HUGS
