Rash related to Remicade?

Hello all,

So last week I began to get some joint pain in my knee and thought nothing of it. The next morning my knee felt fine, but I had joint pain in my ankle. When I looked at it I noticed a pinpoint rash on the top of my foot. For the rest of the week my joint pain would rotate between my knees and ankles, to the point where I could barely walk. The rash began to travel all over my feet, then it would disappear and come back the next day. It has been a week and it is now worse than ever and beginning to itch slightly. It is now spread throughout both of my calves and has begun on my thighs. My joints still hurt as well. I have no fever, and have an upper respiratory infection (but I believe it is unrelated). I have been extremely fatigued and feeling quite off. My physician tested me for mono and it came back negative.

I have been on remicade for about 8 years now and have not had anything like this happen before. My last treatment was 3 weeks ago, but I am still worried that it has something to do with it. Perhaps it is just crohns related? I have an appt with my gastro next week, but it is getting worse every day!

Anyone had this happen before?

Hey

I had the exact same thing happen to me but on humira I would get joint pain and the rash all over my feet and up my calves with a few spots around the tops of my legs. I also had the swelling in my feet and knees. I was told by my doc that it was an allergic reaction to the humira and since I have been off the humira I haven't had the rash back. I think you can also get swollen joints and a vasculitis rash with infliximab as well. It will be interesting to see what your doctor says and hopefully they can stop the horrible joint pain. X

thanks

Thank you for responding. I am hoping that this is not the case, though it would be better than lupus...which is the other thing I am considering. If that is the case than perhaps I can try Humira...it would be a lot less expensive!!

Well, don't necessarily worry about the lupus. It could be drug-induced lupus but it is known to disappear once the drug in question is stopped. They can pretty much determine either if it is drug related or a self auto-immune disorder by doing specific blood test. I would try to get some done considering the arthralgia and rash, they are common with anti-TNF but requires to be looked at!

Ouch! That looks painful! I once had a similar rash on prednisone. I only get a rash on Remicade if I don't use sunblock each and every day. Apparently Remicade interacts with the sunlight-mineral sunblock is the best, less irritating for me. I hope you get some answers and feel better soon!

So I have not been on in quite some time. Unfortunately I am still having this problem, but the rash is significantly worse and runs up my legs. My feet and ankles are swollen to the point where I cannot wear shoes. This rash/swelling has gone away and come back twice now with two days in between each flare. I have now seen 6 doctors including a rheumatologist and dermatologist and nobody knows what is wrong. It is suspected to be LCV.

Had a skin biopsy today, maybe that will clear it up. Put on prednisone and given some strong painkillers. Doctors also took 7 more vials of blood...hopefully I will have a diagnosis soon.

I dont think this is remicade .... I have had allergic reactions to remicade they have to drug me up every month before I can have my infusion because I am allergic to it. This looks a lot like my friends lupus rash she gets? Do you have lupus?
Have they given you IV steroids you poor thing it looks so painful :( feel better .....
