So my son is tapering off Prednisone as he gets ready to begin other treatment and he just came to me with an itchy red rash on his arms and legs. No other meds have changed so I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this? I gave him Benadryl (and have a call in to the GI), but it's really scary!

He is also on Entocort, but has had no problem with that and has been at a steady dose.

Every day I get a clearer sense of what a pain in the butt this illness is! It's early days for us (he was diagnosed in March) but I'm finding myself consumed by the disease and its treatments. It does get better, right?

Thanks!:ybatty:

Yes, it does get better, but it's a slow and frustrating process. Sorry, I don't have any advice about the rash. My son was on Pred last yr, but did not experience a rash when tapering off. Our GI does an extremely slow taper though, and I think that did keep him from having issues that some have. I hope you get that call back from the GI soon!

An allergy to a medication can happen at any time. I would definitely call his doctor right away for advice.

I retread and saw you've already called. :)

Please let me know what you hear. The GI doctor on call didn't see any possible connection to meds or Crohn's. I took my son to his pediatrician and she said it looked like eczema and to try cortisone cream. I did have her do a strep test because the rash looked like a scarlet fever rash, but it was negative.

I'm still not convinced..:(
