I have always eaten organic honey when I do eat it. I talked to a natural holistic doctor who said I should only use Raw organic honey. She said that the pastuerization process kills all the beneficial enzymes that are in the honey.( makes sense). She said that honey in it's purest form is like a natural healer and antibacterial agent in it's own. She said NOTHING can attack it, no bacteria, nor germ.

Does anyone else here use Raw honey???

I have always heard that it's great for those who suffer from allergies as well. They should find some made local in the area they live in for this benefit though.

What i got from wiki

Most microorganisms do not grow in honey because of its low water activity of 0.6.[3] However, honey sometimes contains dormant endospores of the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, which can be dangerous to infants, as the endospores can transform into toxin-producing bacteria in the infant's immature intestinal tract, leading to illness and even death.

It seems that once you are older than 1 year, your body can easily stop the spores from increasing, therefore there s no risk involved.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I heard that babies are not suppose to eat any honey as there is a risk for them getting sick.

I wonder why it is that that toxin can make a baby sick but not an adult, especially one who already has a bad digestive system.. I always wondered about that.

But yeah, I was told that Raw honey was the Only honey a person should really eat... I have eating one by Y.S. ECO bee farms. It tastes good :)

An infants immune system is not as well developed as an adult, nor are it's gut flora. Small amounts of microbes in raw honey wouldn't be harmful to a healthy adult, but for an infant it could cause gastric distress, same for an adult whose immune system or gut flora have been altered.

I have been on and off flagyl for the past 7 years, I wouldn't go near raw honey at all as other things that are normally safe, like sushi, now make me violently ill.

That is interesting. I was worried about that as well. I asked th holistic doctor and she said that Raw honey was very safe and that there is no bacteria that can live in it. ( but then what is that toxin they are talking about, that is obviosuly something). I also am on low dose antibitoics to prevent UTI's( but I also take high doses of probiotics too)I wonder if the raw honey is bad for me or can it make me sick? Hmmm, I am so confused. I mean I have a friend who drinks nothing but Raw milk and think that is nuts. I would never do that, that is a huge risk in my opinion unless you know your cows very well!

The toxin is the toxin produced by the bacteria, clostridium botulinum. The spores are dormant in the raw honey, but can transform to live bacteria in the gut. clostridium is a really stubborn bacteria. If you have enough healthy bacteria, you should be fine. Does your holistic doctor know that you are on low dose antibiotics? If not, be cautious. Personally, I wouldn't eat it, however, if you are set on it, try a little and see how your body reacts.

I have been eating it for like the last week( I put it on my toast). But today I just switched back to my organic one( it is NOt raw). I have been feeling extra bad in my intestines so maybe it is not agreeing with me so I am just going to lay off it for awhile. The holistic doctor knows I am on the low dose antibiotic. He said I would be fine since I am also taking high dosese of probiotics. But I dont know, I am not going to chance it, I am going to just lay off it. Thanks for the insight..
