Reactions to Imuran

Hi, I have recently been diagnosed with Crohns, and am currently testing different meds. I have started taking Imuran for about 3.5 weeks now, and suddenly(since this past Sunday) I have an almost constant fever,between 38.5 and 39.5, it seems to get better as the day progresses. I take the Imuran before bed. There is also heavy night sweats, severe headache, joint pain in both knees and now today one wrist. I spent most of yesterday in the hospital getting blood tests, urine test, Chest and Abdomen x-rays as well as a CT scan of my sinus. There is also lose of appetite, nausea and dehydration. Has anyone else experienced this? My GI is out of town for three weeks and I am not sure where else to turn.

Hi Rob73 I had nausia, and back pain hair loss etc. The DR took me off the medication seems my system didn't accept it. I see the GI on Thursday after another stay in the hospital for a blockage. Looks like it will be Humira for me. Hope everything works out for you. Keep us posted.

Well I FINALLY get in to see my family Dr.. She is just a GP but I find she is awesome. She contacted my GI's office and spoke with his partner who took me off Imuran. She then sent me for blood work(just in case), AND THEN added me to a special list so when I call, I get in right away to see her.

So far after 1 reduced dose of Imuran and then no dose at all yesterday, most symptoms have been reduced or already have gone away. Guess Imuran wasn't right for me either. Should I be concerned with what comes next though?

Glad to hear they have done something for you and your feeling better. As for the what comes next.. that's where I stand while they try to get approval from my insurance for humira. With any luck it will happen soon as I have started my decrease of my prednizone and once i'm done I end up with another blockage. The GI did give me the option of another surgery to remove the blockage. I figure with medication working somewhat why put myself through that.

Have they given you any ideas on what they are going to try next for you?

The only thing I remember being discussed was Remicade.
