I thought I'd start a thread about foods that have been recalled for whatever reason. Getting something like E Coli or Salmonella would probably be a lot more dangerous for us than for regular healthy folks, so let's keep track in here of what foods have been recalled and when they're safe to eat again and so on.

I don't have much info about this one, but on Facebook yesterday someone said that mangoes have just been recalled? I couldn't find anything in the news today about this so I don't know what type/brand or anything, does anyone know more info? Mangoes are one of my safest fruits (skins off of course) so this is upsetting if it's true! Anyone know more about this or any other food recall?

Hmm, I'll ask. Hey David or DustyKat - what do you guys think about making this a sticky?

I already had Salmonella poisoning at the same time I had pacreatitis. Had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital in the city as they didn't have the proper medications and equipment to treat me.

If you watch Food Inc. on Netflix via the computer or TV, you will see how the companies like Tyson or Perdue aren't doing anything to make our meats safer. They only do the minimum to get by.

They hire illegals to pick up the dead chickens (and some healthy ones)and put them in the truck to the killing factory. On top of that, most of them are walking, sleeping, lying in their own waste which is full of bacteria. Then when it gets processed, some of them get get inspected or missed and then it gets shipped to the supermarkets where people consume it and get sick. Same goes with pigs. The filth they are in is full of E. coli & the like. The sick pigs aren't picked out of the group & get mixed in with the healthy ones.

Then they go to slaughter to be inspected before the final product and some are missed carelessly. Once they are off to market, they get eaten and boom....E. Coli and such outbreak.

There's more information on why it's better to eat meat that's antibiotic and hormone free instead of corn fed. Grass fed is better and much healthier for everyone including the animals. I highly recommend watching it as certain chemicals can affect diseases and illnesses people have. I wish I could remember more but my short term memory isn't that.

I did watch it. It was horrible. I mean the movie was good, but what they show is horrible. I cried throughout the majority of the movie. I can say it definitely changed my eating habits. That is how I first learned about GMO products and to be aware of what I am purchasing/eating. Sorry to hear you had Salmonella and pancreatitis! Both are bad, and to have had them at the same time!!! =(

Thanks PRP. I reacted the same way. My jaw dropped and then I was like corporate greed at its finest. Instead of doing what's best for consumers, they do the job half @ssed for the sake of saving a few bucks. Then when ppl get sick, they don't care unless they are sued big time. Gov't doesn't care about FDA safety why should they unless it's a photo op for them or if it's an election year.

There is a massive beef products recall in Canada right now. It's being updated with more products every day for the past week or so. All the beef is out of Alberta, some of it was shipped to the states as well I believe. Since new products are being recalled every day we're just not getting any for a while. It's Thanksgiving anyway so we're eating turkey instead:)

Yeah the beef recall in Canada is huge right now. The grocery stores have lists of what's been recalled in it's seriously all the beef. We're going to stick to chicken, fish, and pork right now for a few weeks so even after the recall gets lifted we will give it time to make sure all that crap is off the shelf

Thanks all, I didn't know about the beef recall (fortunately I don't eat beef nor pork, only poultry & fish, but it's still good info to know as my hubby eats beef). Prplkow, I hear you, I wish I could just eat air or absorb nutrients though my skin or something. Wish I lived in a warmer climate so I could have a year-round garden! Because if anything, this thread is inspiring me to grow more of my own food.
