Hi All,

I have recently been diagnosed with Crohns disease. Here is my story. I am 23 years old and have been suffering with severe stomach pains and diarrhea for 12months. After many doctors appointments, an abscess and lots of tests i was finally officially diagnosed a few weeks ago. I am on medication and so far have no symptoms but my biggest concern is my tiredness. I easily sleep 12hrs a night and am always so tired. Is there anything that can be done to reduce tiredness?

What Medication are you taking? I was diagnosed a month ago and I am taking Budesonide and Pentasa and one of the side effects is tiredness and lack of sleep also nightmares. They say just to battle through but i know thats hard you will find that it does ease off and you will have days you do not feel as tired :)

i am taking Mesasal, i didn't think of it as being a side effect to my medication,i hope it eases... its such a struggle to go to work of a morning!

Yes its more then likely a side effect as the medication is working hard on your body, remember to drink plenty of water and take brakes where you can :)

Hello and welcome to the forum :)

Out of interest have you had any of your vitamin levels checked? If not ask you doc to do these as people with crohns can have vitamin deficiences and a low B12 for example can cause fatigue.

Hi there, diet wise I just make sure I don't eat high fat/high fibre foods and stay away from things with nuts and pips. Also from experience I stay away from foods that will make my tummy grumpy (spicy stuff is a definite no no). I have tried other diets in the past but without meds I always flare up - have even flared when on the liquid shakes!
