Hey everyone!!!

First of I'd like to say that I am super glad I found this forum I am confident it will help.

I am currently 27 and am having a tough time with CD.

It all began after I had surgery Feb 2011 for an ovarian cyst. About 2 weeks after the surgery I started having to frequently use the washroom either for a BM or to be sick. I was having atleast 7 BM per day and was in constant discomfort.

Unsure what was going on I went to the Doctor as this had carried on for about a month. The doctor performed a series of tests stool cultures etc. making sure it wasn't something caused by my surgery. When I seen the "GI"
he rushed for a Colonoscopy and barium/chalk test. By this time it was June and I was still feeling awful my "GI" could not see me until aug 4 ... more waiting finally I seen my "GI" and was confirmed that I have Crohn's.

I have had flare ups every other week since may. The pain keeps me up at night all he has given me so far is PENTASA (anti inflamatory)

I see him again on Oct 4

I am hoping he will give me something that helps.

I am staying positive.

Hiya Liisa
and welcome

Glad you found us!
IMO Pentasa will only work to maintain once any inflammation is under control, usually with a course of steroids such as Prednisolone or Budesonide (Entocort). Pentasa is very mild.
Have a read through our Treatment sections, there are alternatives, the immuno supressants Azathioprine (Imuran) and Mercaptupurine (6MP) or the biologics Remicade (Infliximab) and Humira.
Hopefully this will give you something to talk about in October, and stay positive!
lotsa luv

Hi Liisa and welcome. That sucks that the pain is keeping you up at night, I'm glad your appointment is right around the corner. I agree with Joan that it's likely you'll be given something more this time around. Do you know where your Crohn's is located? Are you on any supplements and have you tried any specific diets?

Hi Lisa and welcome! I certainly think an adjustment to your treatment plan is needed. As Joan said, you may need a course of steroids to get the inflammation under control to allow the Pentasa to do its job. But until you meet with your GI in October, try to rest as much as possible. You may even want to stick to a low-residue diet to help reduce symptoms. Things like chicken, rice, white bread, crackers, potatoes are easy to digest and won't cause as much pain to the inflamed intestines.

Keep us posted and let us know how your appointment goes!
