I'm looking for advice to help us thru this weekend.

For some reason that we can't figure out, M has some significant rectal bleeding. She was given the ok on Thurs to ease off of two meds (decrease Apriso from 3 capsules to 2 and discontinue flagyl). The bleeding began Fri evening.

She does have a known anal fissure and regularly poops once daily, not too firm but not too soft. In other words, the poop shouldn't be breaking open the fissure, but who knows, maybe it is.

The first thing we did was add back the extra Apriso and one flagyl she was on to make sure that decreasing those wasn't aggravating this bleed. Also, she is using canasa suppositories to help stop the bleeding and continues to take in a lot of fluid to help the stool move and keep it soft enough to get thru.

Is there anything else I should be doing?

One thing that helps my daughter is the cortifoam... but it is because her Crohns is in her rectal area. It works well.
is she in pain? how much blood?

She isn't complaining of much pain. She sometimes uses lidocaine on her bottom. The amount of blood is concerning. I guess that any amount it. It's bright red on the tissue and then some fills the bowl. I know once it hits the water it looks like more than it is.

Is cortifoam prescription or OTC?

I'm just going to ask the obvious... menstration?

(I only have boys and have always wondered how with girls you can tell the difference.)

Cortifoam is prescription and expensive unless you have good insurance.

Just to give another option for you.... we are headed to Montana tomorrow to start a new treatment called the anti m.a.P treatment

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3031217/

Here is an article I found that gives lots of good info on the subject.

wishing the best for you and your daughter

other obvious question..
have you call her GI?
most have on call go's covering 24-hours a day ours does.
Any new or different blood symptoms is something we are to call right away about.

hugs

Cortifoam has done us well and feels much better than the liquid enemas. Always out of stock though for us from the manufacturer. Hard to keep the prescription filled.

Mehita, she can tell the difference because it happens when she poops. Otherwise, there isn't blood.

MLP, I did call the hospital GI but he said short of coming in to the ER he didn't have anything else to tell me.

Hope, thank you for the article. I've started to read it and would love to hear about the anti map treatment. Is it new? Unconventional?

The good news is M is not in pain. The bleeding might have begun to slow down w/her last poop. I will def call the clinic doctor Mon morning. I also want to look into the cortifoam to have on hand.

Sorry I didn't see your post until now.glad to hear it sounds better. Hopefully you guys will figure it out quickly. Sending a hug your way.
