Morning all,

I'm new here, and calling in for some hep/advice!

I have had Crohn's for years & years, diagnosed for 5 years. I was mis-managed at first, basically with loads of prednisolone thrown at my disease for long periods of time. This led to suppressed adrenal glands and all that nice business.

I'm still working on the prednisolone issue, and that is where I need some help!

I take 100mg azathioprine (used to be 150mg, but that killed by neutrophils), a lot of sulfasalazine (2gs? I don't know - 4 big tablets a day), and 6mg prednisolone.

I have been feeling really good for about six months. Which is pretty amazing.

The 6mg prednisolone is a huge success in itself, but it has to come down further. At the moment, I am trying to get it down to 5mg. For the past 2 weeks I have been alternating 6mg and 5mg a day, but man, my tummy hurts!

So I wondered if anyone had advice on reducing pred? I'm really in it for the long game and would rather do a slow & steady reduction and keep my disease under control than go too fast and get ill.

Obviously my doctor is over-seeing all of this (he is fabulous), but as we know doctors can't really give conclusive answers of what will and won't work when it comes to Crohn's. I figured maybe I could learn from the collective experience of others who may have done this sort of thing?

Hi. I wish I had better advice. With your having this much trouble, it'd probably be best to contact your doctor and let him know that the reduction isn't working along with the symptoms you're getting. Maybe he'll have some other ways of how to get you off the prednisone.

I do know that I've been there many times in the reduction of prednisone and it's not always easy. Please keep us updated on how you're doing.

Hi Emily :)
Do you have an IBD nurse specialist you could call for some advice on this?
Sorry I can't be of any help myself, I'm pretty new to it all and still climbing the steep learning curve..
Bunty x
