Remicade just ceasing to work?

As I posted in a different thread, I've been on Remicade for about a year. I've still been having symptoms but they were much milder. Well, last week everything came back full force from the diarrhea to the pain. I think the Remicade has quit working completely. I'm scheduled for another treatment and an appointment with my GI on the 18th. So I am just trying to stick it out until then. Has anyone else had this happen? Has the Remicade just quit working on you?

:depressed:

Sorry to hear that. Maybe you could adjust your diet. When Humira started working with me I began eating a lot, and things I wouldn't have ate before. It seemed to stop working so I readjusted my diet and things leveled out.

There seems to be something about the 18th. I noticed a poster in another thread about having an appointment on the 18th. And I also have an appointment on the 18th. Let's hope it's not Crohn's doomsday. :) just kidding.

Normally it doesn't just flat out quit working, but rather lose effectiveness over time. You might have been losing the effect for a few months and now hit a full on flare and need your dose increased or frequency increased to have the effect go the full duration between infusions. Talk to your doctor as they will be able to give you more information about this effect with remicade and be able to decide if it is in fact losing effect or just a flare since you can and will still flare even on a drug like remicade (It'll just be less often and less severe usually).

There's nothing more evil than spamming on a forum where people are trying to get health for an illness. Absolute pure evil. I tried to start a forum for Tinnitus support and it became overrun with spammers :(

Good thing is usually vbulletin is good at detecting the spammers... guess I'll send a separate note to the admin.

Ask your doc about Imuran if your not already on it. It helped prolonging remicade with Mike.

Been on Imuran since I was diagnosed. :) The doctor has moved my treatments up to every six weeks and also put me on Levaquin to see if it helps matters.

Ghostwind, I get Remicade every 7 weeks at over 10 mL/kg. Remicade loses it's effectiveness over time and after a year of infusions, you could be building up a bit of a resistance to it. Hopefully the more frequent dose will do the trick for you!

Pen, have you looked into Cimzia? It's similar to Remicade and Humira, but I don't know if you'll respond to it if you have failed the other two first.

Ghost, are you on the max dose (10mg/kg)? There is a blood test for antibodies to remicade. Good luck. - Mike

I'm on 7.5mg/kg. The doctor doesn't want to go to 10 just yet.

Why not, if you are sick now, why wait. You can also go to six weeks.

He just moved me to six weeks. He wants to see how I respond to it at 6 weeks before moving up the dosage. I see him again on Nov. 3rd so we'll see.
