Remicade Premeds?

The hospital where we go for infusions has decided to stop giving any premeds prior to infusion. I guess they have decided there isn't a need if the child has been on it without problems. Anybody here have no med's prior?

We had pre-meds in the beginning and then not later on. The research shows that they don't really do very much, I think. At first my daughter got Tylenol and Benadryl (orally) but then the hospital stopped doing that.

Now they only use pre-meds for kids who have had a reaction (which is usually IV Benadryl and Solumedrol).

My son does pre-meds, but I was told it's because he had started building antibodies at one point and now he's considered high risk for a reaction.

Does that sound right?

I've been on remicade for over a year. They always give me premeds, benadryl and tylonel. I asked to skip them one time for time reasons (they make me wait about an hour after to start infusion) I noticed the difference throughout my infusion. I have never skipped since.

My son only does Solumedrol as a pre med and they did not start that until a couple of years on remicade and GI says to help so he doesn't build antibodies.
