Rash all around DS 's torso and left upper arm .
This is Ds so it could be remicade
Winter or because we put away the tree
Also very white stool - as well :voodoo: liver numbers were normal today so WTH
He feels great so I am going to not panic
Call Gi / allergy in the am to make them aware
Took photos tonight so I can easily assess if it has gotten any worse in the am
Hoping its the tree ......
Allergic kiddo plus crohn's = no sleep for me

NO WAY! Never a dull moment for you huh?

FWIW skin issues with Remicade are pretty common. Doing my own internet research tonight as well because O's eczema is ridiculously on fire and her GI was asking a lot of questions about it last time we were in. He said it is no where near the point where he would consider stopping the Remi but she is really uncomfortable and self conscious as it is all over her face.

I would call on it. Keep us posted.

Will update in the am
A little tricker here since this type of rash = allergic reaction
But since it wasn't color coded or labeled - not sure of the cause
This means allergy gets involved given DS history they could put the brakes on the drug :(
Came close last time when he had a blister afterwards and another time eye swelling
Head back in the sand

MLP,
I am sorry to hear this. I know remicade has really helped him. Hopefully they will allow him to continue it. Did they premedicate him with Benadryl and a dose of prednisone that is what they did with Caitlyn. Also circle the rash with a pen and see if it continues to spread past the pen mark to see if it spreads and gets worse. ( old nurses trick)

Ugh! Sorry to hear that he may be having a reaction to the remicade I hope that is not what it is. Have you changes soaps/lotions/anything? I hope you get this cleared up soon. I would definitely touch base with the GI. Was his last infusion in his left arm?

Checking in too!!! How is he??? I hope the rash cleared overnight and you did get some rest last nite!!! :ghug:

He is fine
Rash resolved on its own overnight with help from Zyrtec :)
Dermo looked at him this am for other issues and no sign of rash
Spoke with allergy - our doc is on vacation so we can wait
Left message for Gi

Glad to hear the rash is gone! I used to have to chase C down to get him to take his zyrtec as he got older but since he has started having to take supplements, MTX etc. the zyrtec is no big deal. When he was younger we went through all the px allergy meds but zyrtec seem to be the only one to help.

Med taking has never been an issue since he started taking meds at 8 months old.
Saw dermo today and skin is still inflamed
Anyone else have all these issues ???
So far we have inflamed:
Skin
Eyes
Lungs
Gut
Joints
And occasionally veins ( vasculitis )

And each issue is caused by a different disease in one kid
Really :(

Sorry, MLP, no help here. C had the eyes, joints and guts covered at one time. I sure hope your DS gets relief from it all really soon!

I'm glad the rash is gone... but, with all you're dealing with, I wish I could do more than just send hugs!!

Now that the rash is gone, hope the BMs are also back to normal and that you'll hear from the GI soon!!!

:ghug: :ghug:

Thanks guys
Really outside of the white stool
All other things are doing well even great at the moment just lots of docs and lots drugs .
But all is under control at the moment .

Gald the rash is gone! Devynn has white stool once, (never been on Remicade) and was ordered an ab ultrasound. Everything looked fine and it has never happened again. We have NO clue why it happened.

Thanks Kim
Left a message with the GI and allergy on Friday.
I did not hear back from GI but did speak witht the allergy nurse( allergist is on vacation).
He had bloodwork done on Thursday prior to his remicade infusion - his ALT and AST were normal.
his stool is back to normal today. :)
One thing I learned is that crohn's can cause white stool when there is inflammation in the small intestine.
He has had it before more than once.
Going to try and correlate dates with the other symptoms or food etc.. from now one.

Oh I am glad to hear his liver enzymes were normal and that his stool is back to normal. You had me worried there! I get so upset when docs don't call back.i know they are busy but that is why they have nurses to help them out! Anyway I am soooo glad he is ok now!

Good to hear that the rash and stool issues have settled mlp, and that his LFT's are normal. :)

You and your lad surely have enough on your plate. I hope you are able to find a link and reasons for why these things are happening. Good luck!

MLP
I was trying to do some more research into the causes for white stool. I remember Caitlyn having had this once or twice and I was curious if I could find a reason why it might occur in Crohn's disease. I did not find much other then this link
http://www.mademan.com/mm/why-my-poop-white.html
Which still does not really explain the cause in crohns other then maybe dietary changes. I was wondering if you have seen any other information about it? Also when you say white stool do you mean the stool itself was white or pale from lack of color or was it white from mucous?

Completely white stool not mucus
Even on the tp
The only thing I could find was one ref
To severe small instestinal inflammation or malabsorption issues both related to crohn's
But the ref wasn't very good as in not a paper just info on a website.

Acute or chronic pancreatitis (low appetite, pain in the middle or left upper abdomen, nausea)
Pancreatic cancer (low appetite, weight loss)
Liver or biliary duct disease
Severe inflammation of small intestine (Crohn’s disease, celiac disease, tuberculosis, severe food poisoning)
Candida overgrowth in the large intestine (in persons with lowered immunity, like in AIDS or after a chemotherapy)
Other Causes of White Stool

Hmm, so if he is having white stool does that mean the remicade is not reducing the inflammation? I will be curious to see what the GI has to say about it if they ever call you back. I checked side effects of remicade but did not find anything about white stools. I was thinking because your son has a lot of allergies maybe it is due to food restrictions or from the formula?

Just going to wait on the Gi
But even formula only it was all liquid but very brown
He only has one food allergy to tree nuts so that is not an issue since its IgE type ( even a little but will kill him)- so not that.
We do know that his other symptoms increase/come back within a week of the next due infusion so maybe inflammation is coming back as well
Not sure
Gi did increase the remicade dose this time so time will tell.

Has he been using antacids?

Sometimes they can turn the stool pale/whitish.

How frustrating MLP! Alex often had minor rashes after Remicade and they'd go away with a few days and some benadryl. The only time I know of that he had white stool was right after an MRI from the contrast. Hope you get it all settled soon.

You asked about other inflammation and yes, Alex has had inflammation of nearly all those you listed. Even after Crohns dx and treatment, we still battle his conjunctivitis daily, asthma flares occasionally, skin rashes randomly, and joint pain rarely. I hate IBD. grrrrr.

I know this thread is a bit old but wondering if you ever found out the reason for the white stools? My son has been having them for the last few days. Sometimes all white, sometimes just white pieces mixed in. I have left a message for the GI and wasn't too worried until I googled white stool. He also has a pimply type rash on his shoulders and upper arms. The GI just upped his dose of remicade last week. Sigh, it never ends!
