Remicade with delayed reaction?

Hi all - my son received his third loading dose of Remicade last Monday. The infusion went fine. Yesterday he woke up, felt nauseous and had a temp of 101.4. He took two tylenol and three hours later his temp was down to 99.5 and two hours after that it was totally normal and he felt fine. Has anyone had a similar experience - I'm not sure if this would be a serum sickness or delayed reaction. Is it a big deal? We have a call into the Gastro but probably won't hear back until tomorrow.

I feel like I am constantly on pins and needles waiting for something to go wrong.

Thanks for the input!

After I get a Remicade infusion, I'm tired with flu like feeling for 2-3 days. At 2-3 days afterwards, I get extremely hot or flushed and have nausea but I have never vomited. I sweat and feel like I'm going to pass out. This will last for about 3 hours and then all of a sudden I feel really good. All of the nausea and the intestinal pain is gone. This is the point that that I feel like I can eat anything without making me run to the bathroom.

I have never taken my temperature during this. It usually happens while I'm at work. My last Remicade infusion was this previous Tuesday, so I'm thinking that tomorrow sometime tomorrow (Friday) it will happen to me. This past infusion was my first dose at 10 mg/kg. Today (Thursday), I felt awful all day as if I had the flu. I'll carry a thermometer with me tomorrow at work and see what happens to my temperature when I feel something.

I don't think this is serum sickness or anything. I look at it like this. When Remicade enters our body, the body thinks it's a foreign substance and tries to fight it. After a couple days, receptors in our body tells the Remicade where to act and what to do. And after it starts working, I feel great. I was increased to 10 mg/kg due to the Remicade only lasting 2-2.5 weeks before wearing off.

Thanks for the information. I did speak to our IBD specialist and she was not at all concerned. She said this is definitely not serum sickness. I appreciate hearing your story too.

Hey there. I had my first infusion a couple of weeks ago. My temp actually went up during the infusion, but they told me it was nothing to worry about and to take paracetamol when required. I too get the nausea which is unpleasant but don't throw up either. Hope all goes well for your boy x
