Hey guys, i'm sort of confused about what exactly "remission" means. If one is in remission, will the disease still continue to get worse over time, even though you are without a majority of symptoms?
A lot of people do not know what remission is. It basically is when you are having no active symptoms of disease, inflammation, in your intestines. I am in remission now. I do not have pains or horrible bowel movements or anything that shows I have any active Crohn's in my system. I hope that helps clarify remission a little better for you.
People have different terms for it (as Jeff stated). Some people consider remission anytime they are not flairing. This may mean that they need to watch what they eat, but they show next to no symptoms of the disease.
Others use it to say when they have no sign of active disease in thier intestines (where I currently am). I still have to be careful about eating the skins of fruits and vegetables and nuts (maybe they have caused a problem for me due to the surgery I had) but really I can eat/do anything without getting any symptoms.
Use the term how you like. It is easiest to think of it as a time when the disease is not active.
when my dr told me I was in remission, I laughed. lol
could be because I just finished having a scope put down my throat because I has not been able to eat for 2 months, or could be because of the drugs they gave me. ha.
I do feel Im in remission now.. no unbearable symptoms. long live remicade.
