so, sometimes when i get feeling better, i stop taking my medications. this past month i took my regular perscribed shot CIMZIA but i haven't been taken my oral med Lialda. I haven't felt this good in a while. I'm working full time and im eating good foods. I have only have Crohns for a year so im wondering if experimenting this is a good idea? :eek2:

Crohn's is a chronic illness with know known cure and the severity of the disease is what decides what course of action needs to be taken. Going off of medication can be dangerous because it allows the condition to go untreated which can wreak havoc on our insides that we cannot see and many don't notice the effects until its too late. Being in remission does not mean you go fully off of medication (I know you're still on one currently). I've been in remission for over 12 years now and I've always taken maintenance drugs. Taking medication on a constant basis gives you a higher probability of going into and staying in remission. Also many medications can take a while to take effect so its possible that you're feeling well is from the combination of meds you were taking. Feeling well without the meds you need or without any at all may be temporary but keep in mind that many people on this forum didn't have much to any symptoms before they were told that they needed surgery. I'd be careful about self medicating. You should at least contact your GI and let them know that you've stopped taking that medication so you get proper treatment in the future (say they think you were still taking it and decide to try a harsher drug rather than suggesting to go back on Lialda) if and when things aren't going so well. Welcome to the forum. :)

Cimzia may be all you need to keep symptoms at bay. It is a very powerful medication. However you should discuss it with your GI. Be honest with him and say you still feel good despite stopping the lialda and you want to know if you can stick with cimzia only.

Trust the previous two comments, I stopped taking my meds b/c I felt way better and honestly couldn't afford the prescription b/c I lost my insurance... I'm paying for it now. I have on and off days and the off days are terrible. I've gone from 145 to 115 and having a hell of a time getting the medicines or medical help I need. Stay on your meds or at least talk to the doctor. Trust me!

you wouldnt come off your heart medication if you had heart disease would you??

well why would you come off your bowel disease meds??

Never come off your medication... its crazy!

Im on azathioprine and decided since i felt better im going to come off it so i came off it and 2months later i started noticing a little change in my symptoms so when it was time to see my GI he said the reason while i was feeling good is because the meds are working
