so i had resection surgery on march 15....got around 8 inches of my small and large intestine...my terminal ileum began to scar so i had to get rid of it i also got my appendix removed...so there is the background to my questions

1.How long before i could do physical activities for example basketball...because my life revolves around basketball lol

2. any suggestions on recovering from this surgery in regards to physical activity...should i take it slow or just play normal pace for example

thank you for the help and God bless!

Hey there
Hope your surgery went well. Was it open or laparoscopic? That will affect your recovery time. Your just over two weeks post op so I would say that it is still early days for anything too strenuous.
People do recover at different rates though so a lot will depend how you feel. I wouldn't lift anything heavy til after Week 6 and build up your exercise regime gently, starting with gentle walking and see how you get on.

Im almost 5 weeks post op- I had 80cm small intestine removed laproscopically. First week was in the hospital completely disabled and bedridden. week 2 at home was very little movement- just to make tea or soup then on couch or bed chillin. week three I was more mobile, walking around, even left the house in a car (with someone else driving) a couple times, now at week 4/5 Im mostly back to normal movement/mobility expect Im really into yoga and I cant quite do what Im used to yet- my energy is still pretty low and and I get dizzy, but everyones different. Im sticking to low-key stretching and gentle slow yoga. most strenuous thing I do is walk my dog, off leash is no biggie but on leash she is 60lb of raw power pulling on me and I can do it fine now, would have killed me week 2 or 3 though. honestly, I say take it slow and dont jump back into physically demanding activities- because healing a major abdomibal surgery is already demanding on your bodies energy. oh, and talk to your dr. for their opinion!

I would take it slow. Talk to your surgon about it before you go play B Ball with the guys. I know it took me about 6 weeks to be able to work out and I still had to go a little slow. You don't want to get complacations from going all out. I would do some treadmill to stay in shape and other things like walking before you jump right in to playing B Ball.

I would talk to your doctor and take slow. I am 5 years out of my resection and still have a sensitive abdomen. I can bend and twist fine, but if I get blocked in the stomach it takes a few minutes to recover.
